Bowlsby extended him and then a couple months later Barta came on board and added another year. Steve had two extensions within months of each other.

he had barta by the short hairs in order to (if he did get fired) gain another year on the buy-out. Alford is and will always be a coach that i just dont like. period. he runs on his name, but sooner or later the name runs out.

I heard Barta slipped NM a hundred thousand and a couple tickets to the ISU vs. IU games to hire him.

Very lucky for Barta if Alford take the job. Gonna be interesting, at least we can watch this coaching search from the sidelines this time. Plus we are getting close to 5 months without a coaching search in the state of Iowa so we are due...

That name did go to the Sweet 16 one year.
Good move for Alford. That isn't considered a power conference so the competition should't be as great and his chances to win are better.
It doesn't look good for Iowa to have a coach take a lateral or downward move, but it's no secret a lot of the fans don't like him.

Those are the details I just got emailed from a regional sports reporter. We'll see how accurate it is but so far it's looking like the papers are still wet.
Note: This is Iowa news but it's on the front page due to it's attention.
So I guess this will be Alford's press conference to say that he is not interested in, and is taking himself out of consideration for, the iowa coaching position.....

Can I have everyone's attention, please? In light of this devastating news to the Cyclone Fanatic Nation, I will be holding a candle-light vigil later tonight in the street gutter. If any of you would like to join in, feel free to stop by. Also, make sure you bring a 40 oz. as we need to pour some down for our fallen homie, the man who knows how to run a probram into the ground, Steve "Hair Gel" Alford.

Is anyone else waiting to hear Bobby Knight blast Iowa??? I don't think Knight will have anything bad to say about Iowa for this. I heard last week that the NM AD was the AD at TT when they hired Knight, and Knight was working on getting him to hire Alford at NM.

Maybe Mountain West = Big Ten in Steve's eyes.

Knight has been unhappy with the way that Alford was treated towards the end of his time at Iowa. He got him the job at NM. He will be making some sort of comment on the whole issue. Iowa fans are waiting for the boom.
