Alford to NM - 800-950K, Friday Presser
Those are the details I just got emailed from a regional sports reporter. We'll see how accurate it is but so far it's looking like the papers are still wet.
Note: This is Iowa news but it's on the front page due to it's attention.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player. |

Wet from tears of the New Mexico AD, weeping because while he can't resist bringing Alford into town, he knows it will haunt him.
And Barta opens a beer in Iowa City, glad he was able do accomplish something by doing absolutely nothing.

My sources say that figure includes 100-150K of vintage 1980's Prell.

Barta's like.."Damn, New Mexico didthe dirty work for me!"
| Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative. ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other." |

Hawks are already mourning their loss by not getting McD last year--from the comments after the ESPN story..... Former Northern Iowa basketball coach, Greg McDermott, should have waited another year! He could have ended up in Iowa where everyone knows he wanted to go in the first place. If that position was open a year ago, he would have gone for sure! I support McDermott in the sense that he built UNI's basketball program, but I hope he loves being a Cyclown and coaching idiot vandalizers. Delusional...... | | |

I think that this is a win win situation for both sides. Alford gets to keep his rep, and Iowa gets to move in a new direction. Let's just hope that they don't hire too good of a coach.
Is anyone else waiting to hear Bobby Knight blast Iowa???

Its on the ticker on ESPNews. Barta is veryyyyyy lucky. Evryone knows he screwed up by giving him a nextension last year. Gary has done nothing and looks pretty weak compared to lil brothers Jamie Pollard. They probably thought that buying the internet domain sites was a stroke of genius, i cant wait to see what else he screws up and see Iowa tumble down the ugly road of less than mediocre.

It's pretty hard to fire a guy after a 25 win season. Barta pretty much had to extend the contract, or let the recruiting suffer and set the program back.

Wasn't it Bowlsby the one who gave SA the extension while he was practically on the plane out of IC?

Well, Iowa's coach just left for a school in the Mountain West. I guess Steve really did take them to that new level.
