It was hard enough for G-Mac to put together the class for last season. We've got one that's leaving and another with behavior issues. There is speculation that other(s) will leave too - this speculation doesn't exist just here.
G-Mac seemingly is going to have a much tougher off-season than he should have. Seriously? Care to share who is the center of the speculation?
Why does this always happen with us? Why can't we go a few years without anyone transfering?
Frustrating...

Patience, it takes time, but we will get there. Mac is not going to win a Big 12 Title next year with or without McIntosh. He could have provided a ton of help showing the new guys the ropes as far as point guard play in GMAC's system and the Big 12. Having a senior to play under wouldn't stunt their growth.

Mike, I think you should have thought about that a bit before you said it. You're comparing him to the likes of Jeff Hornecek, Fred Hoiberg, Jamal Tinsley, Barry Stevans. Will was good, but it's a streeetch to call him the best point ever in ISU history. Hoiberg and Stevens were not point guards. Even if he was top 5, calling him one of the top point guards isn't stretch.

I don't think we saw Dodie improve the last few weeks of the season like we did Corey.
I think Dodie will be a better player for us that Corey was when it's all said and done, I just really liked the prospect of having Corey play minutes while the younger guys got brought along slowly. Dodie and Diante won't play any worse than Corey. However, the extra depth would have been a plus. As long as we can keep MT away from the point, we will be okay.

Frustrating... I'm just thinking about what I keep reading here and in other places. Clark, Jiri, Marsden, etc.
I think for the most part it's not true, then again - in Ames you never know.
I'm just not fond of this non-stop uneasy feeling we have in the off-season of "who's transferring next?".

I think the only reason we're seeing possible defections this year with Mac is because he had to throw together a group of players that didn't have a lot of time to get to know Ames or Iowa State. Some of them came with big eyes and realized it's a lot of work, some just weren't necessarily up to competing with some of the future players we're getting.
I don't want to get into the rumors and things but I have no worries about player defections for a year or two because that's just natural as a new style and system gets installed. It's not just a quick one year fix, it's sometimes long and tedious and often times stressful.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player. |

Jiri...everyone has heard about him possibly leaving for pro-ball in Europe.
Clark...where would he go? Division 2?
Marsden...I could see it with the talent we are brining in. I'd like to see what he can do 100% healthy though.
Is there anyone that would be devastating? Wesley and Jiri in my opinion. Wesley more than Jiri since Jiri just has 1 year left.

I am going to miss McIntosh though. I know I gouged him sometimes on here, but it was mostly because of frustration. I thought he was the best leader we had on the floor but he was limited physically.
Besides all of that, just sounded like such a nice, intelligent guy, and I really wish him the best. I'm a huge fan of his.

I'm right there with ya Bryce. I loved listening to Corey talk. He's a very smart kid. One that could have a bright future in coaching or whatever he decides to do.

It's not all bad if we lose a player or two more. We know we had a mediocre team this year(just look at record). If we lose a few mediocre players and upgrade what's wrong with that? Long term I don't think you'll see a lot of it.

I'm not saying Blaylock wasn't good, I'm just saying it's a stetch to say he was the best we ever had.

I've got it from three sources that one more guard (name withheld by me) will transfer out in the coming weeks. I heard the rumor first about two months ago but have since received two more sources very close to the matter with corroborating information. |
