Media Relations AMES, Iowa – Iowa State junior guard Corey McIntosh will transfer at the end of the Spring semester, ISU head men’s basketball coach Greg McDermott announced today. "Corey informed me yesterday of his intentions to pursue his basketball career at another school," McDermott said. "We thank Corey for his efforts and wish him nothing but the best in the future." McIntosh, a native of West Covina, Calif., played one season for ISU after transferring from Fullerton Community College. He averaged 4.4 points and 2.5 assists while starting 29 games this past year. "I enjoyed my time at Iowa State," McIntosh said. "It was great playing in Hilton Coliseum, but I want to play my last year closer to home." |

I just don't get it.
Anyways...so Corey is gone. It's possible Mike may not be here, depending on how things shake out.
Just when things for '07 men's basketball were looking very nice, here we are with at least one hole to fill.
Ick.
Best of luck to Corey, I just wish we could've watched him grow as a player another year.

Looks like Thompson will be on scholarship after all. I wish Corey the best. He was a nice young man. He had made some improvements over the year.

Best of luck to him.

I don't think you call McIntosh leaving as a hole to fill. We will be just fine without him as I believe Diante Garrett will be better even though he is only a freshman.

Ick. I disagree for one reason...
We have some good ball handlers coming in that can also consistently score. We thought Corey was going to do that and he clearly isn't going to score 10-15 a night and we can't get too far without a productive guard in the Big XII. I think he's doing what's right for him but I also think it's going to be best for us. Just my opinion.

Yeah, I saw it disappear too and wondered what had happened.
To think Corey's loss isn't creating at least some sort of hole is naive, IMO. Corey improved a lot, especially at the end of the year. While Garrett looks to be a better player - there will be an adjustment period for him. Plus, we don't even know what he'll turn out to be at this level.
We already knew what we had in Corey, a steady player that continued to improve and didn't make a lot of mistakes.
We're still in the mode of needing experienced bodies to be on the court. We just lost one.

There will be a hole but I don't think it's nearly as huge as losing a PG normally would be. Corey's good at defense and FTs but even at the end of the year when he was gaining momentum, he just wasn't going to provide what we needed. I think he had a place this year but I really think he would have struggled with next years players. If we didn't have anybody coming in I think Dunson would have been pushing him for starting spot by next fall. Just my opinion based on what I've seen and heard.

We dont need experience.. we need someone who can dribble the ball without watching it.
He was a very hard worker and I wish him nothing but the best. Big 12 ball just wasnt for him.
Agree with Jeremy

I don't disagree that this isn't a huge hole. But it's a loss that I'd much rather not be having as G-Mac goes into only his 2nd year. Dodie's minutes began to slip a bit because of Corey's improvement. I don't think we saw Dodie improve the last few weeks of the season like we did Corey.
I think Dodie will be a better player for us that Corey was when it's all said and done, I just really liked the prospect of having Corey play minutes while the younger guys got brought along slowly.

Does this transfer hurt our graduation rate? Is this still a factor in retaining schollies?

I'll believe that the new guys can consistently score when I see them consistently score. There's hardly such a thing as a sure thing true freshman.
