Cyclone Notables/Roundup - 7/17/06

Jeremy

Here are the latest news-worthy pieces of information relating to Iowa State Athletics.
  • Iowa State has once again been getting attention for their handling of the Men's Basketball Schedule. As evident in Sunday's Des Moines Register, ISU has been defending it's decision to use a third-party company to handle a part of the Men's Basketball Pre-Season Tournament for the coming season. One of the many reasons for the firing of Wayne Morgan came about because of the negative national publicity of the D1-Scheduling "scandal". It has been explained to me that the use of the new company, Basketball Travelers Inc., is different in the fact that they are a company running the entire tournament and has nothing to do with the rest of Iowa State's schedule. I have confirmed that ISU has carefully evaluated the situation and made sure there were no connections to BT Inc. before procuring their services.
  • Greg McDermott, Dan McCarney, Bill Fennelly, and Jamie Pollard will all be speakers at the Des Moines Cyclone Club's 'Meet the Coaches Night' on July 24th at the Seven Flags Event Center in Des Moines. Please see the previous post on this page for more information regarding how to attend the event and who to contact with any questions. WOI-TV Channel 5's John Walters will be the emcee for the event.
  • Jamine Peterson is said to be nearing a decision on making some campus visits this summer & fall. Jamine has seen his stock rise incredibly over the past few months, including the past week due to a 36 point performance that wowed many in attendance. Jamine currently lists ISU in the top five of his choices along with UMASS, Seton Hall, Rutgers, and Memphis. No timeline has been set for any sort of announcement at this time.
  • Iowa State is seen as increasingly out of the picture with 6-10 Forward Derek Selvig. Iowa State had looked at Selvig early on but has since dropped out of preference for Selvig who is looking hardest at Montana, Arizona State, and UNI. Montana is looking like the most probable choice for Selvig at this time due to numerous connections from his home-state school.
  • Despite recent reports elsewhere, Iowa State is not currently on the short list for Georgia SF Jordan DeMercy. DeMercy is currently a rising star and is looking hardest at Arkansas and Cincinnati. While Iowa State is still a possible school of interest for Jordan and seems to be gaining interest from him at this time, he seems to be very interested in staying on the East coast if at all possible.
  • Also of contention is the recent and numerous reports from other sites that PG Jacob Pullen has an offer from Iowa State. As I confirmed a couple of weeks ago and will do again today, Pullen does not currently have an offer from Iowa State. While Iowa State does have interest in following Pullen and may decide to make a move in the future, no offer has been extended as of this morning. Marquette, Xavier, Dayton, Notre Dame, and Nebraska currently lead the pack of schools for Pullen while Iowa State is still with some mutual high level interest.
  • Due to a death in the family this past week as well as some other unexpected events, I was unable to follow up on some of the numerous recruiting related stories I eluded to in the last roundup. I will work to confirm additional details over the coming days and keep everybody up to date with any developments.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

Jeremy,

Earlier today you said you were going to have a roundup tonight, is this what you were talking about or is there still going to be a roundup sometime tonight?

This was the roundup that I was refering to in my earlier post. I hope to be able to have another roundup early in the week but it depends on who I can contact and when...
