I don't mean to imply that, I just think we were after other guards just as much if not more so than P'Allen. As the recruiting process wore on with him I think it became more and more obvious to everybody that he wasn't going to fit in with the other players nearly as much as it first appeared his talents were worth.

Now having said that, those attitude problems have surfaced in a new way by getting kicked out of school. That may be a coincidence but you can't say Creighton out recruited us either when they had a very veteran coach and we hadn't even played a game with our new staff when we started looking at these guys. We have since garnered the attention of recruits and prospects that wouldn't even take a call from Creighton.

Note: Not trying to make it sound snooty, I just think there is no comparison if you look at the overall recruiting prospects for the future years.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

Good point. Stinnett did what he thought was in his best interests. Stud recruit? Yes. Would he have fit in McDermott's system? Who knows...

We will see how this plays out, but Altman is a good coach. A little strange they would have a committee to hire a coach 250 miles away. Definitely not the way Jamie operates. I think they will make a play for Stallings, no inside info, but he was a candidate when Alford got the job and he is doing well at Vandy.

Did Stinnett get kicked out of Brewster? Wow, I never heard about that. If we did indeed miss on him, that's one strikeout that's probably for the best.

The thing that suprises me more than anything else that if it is indeed Altman, that Iowa was able to lure Altman away from his native Nebraska a fairly new arena, and a strong fanbase to an uncertain future (i.e. rebuilding project) at Iowa and a fickle fan base.

I thought Michigan was looking at Stallings. According to ESPN Michigan is looking hard at WVU coach John Beilein with Xavier's Sean Miller and Southern Illinois' Chris Lowery and Stallings as the other candidates.

I agree Jeremy, as it wore on with Stinnett it was clear he didn't have ISU at the top of his list. Yet before that became clear, we wanted him pretty bad.

IMO, Walker was the guy we really missed out on. What a glorious day it would be if he opened up his options and landed in Ames!

Heh, the funny thing is, you're seeing more and more often at these mid majors that new coaches who get hired after the head guy bolts for a high major end up doing quite well on their own, while the old head coach struggles.

And a fanbase that won't immediately embrace him. He's going to have to earn their trust, so to speak.

It is a little dumbfounding on his part, but if he takes the job, he is obviously wanting to take a team to the next level. He will do good things for their program.

I agree. I think he would be a true 4, which would free Wes up to play the 3 a whole lot more. I think Brackins will eventually play more of a 5, or at least, we'll play 2 "4's" when he's on the floor. Walker is a top 150 recruit with the size and game to fit the bill. I'll be watching this closely.

Re: Little Brother Coaching Rumor

Altman will be a safe hire for Iowa and I believe a good one. He's had decent success at Creighton and owned McDermoot, but he's also been at Creighton longer then Mcdermott was at UNI so had more time to build a reputation and get quality players.

You guys are getting way to worked up about if Altman or Mcdermott has the better recruiting class. They're fairly comparable and it's impressive to me that we're even talking about a Missouri Valley team attracting that kind of talent.

It's not the super star hire some of the Iowa fans want, but he's a good one and will give ISU some good competition.

It will be interesting to see if it happens...

I'm assuming that you think the Greg McDermott era will break the trend here at ISU?

It was an Altman bash-fest on HN at the beginning of the search when they thought they could get Gillespie/Pearl/etc.

Now they are "warming up" to him as the next coach.

Welcome back to reality hawk fans!

I have a hard time believing that it'll be Altman. His top assistant just went
to Indiana State. Now, if he knew Altman was going to take the Iowa job why would he take the Indiana State job? Wouldn't he a perfect fit to fill in for Altman when he was gone? If he didn't get the Creighton gig, then wouldn't he just move over to Iowa with Altman? I think Altman is staying put.

Maybe because him and his assistant didn't get along? If he left Creighton for Indiana State...something must be up.
