I'd have to argue about who won the recruiting battle. Anytime a Mid-Major school can compete/possibly out recruit a BCS school such as Iowa State, I will go ahead and call it a win by the smaller school. I understand the timing with the coaching change. Irregardless, other than our 5*, we were out recruited in my opinion.

If he didn't get the Creighton gig, then wouldn't he just move over to Iowa with Altman? I think Altman is staying put. That's exactly what Marty (gag) and Miller said last night!!
Also, for those of you that actually listen to M&M...Marty will be flying solo this Friday, since Miller is having a surgery (Hernia ??). That will be one show to stay away from. WOW
Does Dr. Laura have a show on at that time for me to listen to??

Do you think a school like Penn State losing out on a player to a Memphis or Southern Illinois means it's an automatic recruiting loss?
Regarding this hire, if it is true:
How do you all think this compares to us hiring McDermott? While Altman won't get the fan base excited and won't get as much support as we gave and are in the process of giving McDermott, what else makes this hire much different than ours?
He sounds like a guy who wants to stay in the midwest, so there's a good possibility he wouldn't bolt for another job (unless their fans run him off, too). He was a very successful MVC coach, and people are questioning his ability to recruit on a national level. I think the only difference is that Altman has previous head coaching experience in a big time conference while McDermott did not. Altman wasn't overly successful at it and McDermott's grade is incomplete.
All along I felt that the best hires Iowa could make would be Altman or Lowery, and between the two, I'm glad it's Altman.

FWIW... Altman's record against McD is 9-1.

I think it's just as likely that he left because Altman was leaving and he knew that he wasn't going to be in line for the head job.
Assuming the top assistant would be in line for the head job at Creighton is a huge leap.

Does Dr. Laura have a show on at that time for me to listen to?? Seriously? I was listening to 590 last night and they said pretty much the same thing. Plus, they made fun of the whole Iowa search committee. That was funny to listen to. The basic premise was " Who are these people?" or "Yeah they played basketball at Iowa, but that was 100 years ago."

It seems that people are excited about the potential of the Iowa State basketball program with Greg in charge. And that Iowa hiring Altman (which won't exactly thrill their all of their fans) is a topic of ridicule.
Well, I guess that selective memories are OK, because gosh, I seem to remember people on here not being too thrilled with our hire a year ago.

Altman's assistant took the Indiana State job which many thought meant Altman as staying at Creighton since you'd think he's have a shot at taking over if Altman left. Will be interesting to see how this turns out.

But, as many urged at the time, I've adopted a wait and see approach to see how it all plays out. I expect progress next year (NIT berth) and continued progress after that.

The Creighton assist that left and tookt he Ind St job is Kevin McKenna. He is a Creighton alum/player that was the coach at UN-Omaha D-II (a good coach) His goal was to get to D-I so he took the assist job with Creighton. He has long been rumored to be the successor to Altman if he left because of his ties to the school. The fact McKenna left tells me the Creighton job is not opening up anytime soon.

But it could also mean that Altman is leaving and the Creighton people told McKenna he wasn't their first choice (I've seen the rumor they'll get Scott Sutton from Oral Roberts, which would be a great hire)
So I think we'll all agree McKenna leaving means one of two things:
1) Altman is staying, so McKenna gets his head coaching job
2) Altman is leaving and McKenna won't be the replacement.
I don't think it really says anything about Altman's intentions.
