So is it safe to assume that Tommy has turned down the gig? It would have been great to hear him answer his own questions on the call-in show.

Well, I guess that selective memories are OK, because gosh, I seem to remember people on here not being too thrilled with our hire a year ago.
I was also one of those skeptics, but I felt like McD was a great x and o guy but I was unsure of his recruiting. I am encouraged by his recruiting and his team this year. I'm like URB, I'll expect to see further progress this year then an NCAA birth in year three. And I think he'll deliver.

Re: Little Brother Coaching Rumor

I think Altman is using the opening to get extra cash and/or an extension at Creighton. There had to be a reason he bolted from K State to Creighton. I don't see why he would leave there for Iowa if he hasn't left already for some of the openings he has been mentioned for.

As far as McDermott's record against Altman....I believe Creighton was established as a pretty competitive basketball program well before McDermott got to UNI, and he had to recover from their Sam Weaver debacle.

One of the main reasons that Altman left K State is that he perceived a lack of support from the administration. The decision to try to make football respectable resulted in neglect of all other programs. It was a lesson that Altman has never forgotten. He came to Creighton because he saw an opportunity to develop a bond with an AD and administration that he knew was a requirement for satisfaction and success. This is the main reason that he refuses to deal with search committees. He only wants commitment to and from the person that he will be working for. This approach truely reduces the list of potential moves. Barta needs to step up if he wants iowa to be on that list.

The Altman/McDermott comparison was stacked in favor of Altman. Even the old civic auditoriam was a better recruiting draw than the dome. The Quest Center is as good as it gets and has been in place now for about 4 years. Throw in Omaha vs Cedar Falls and it's not hard to see why Creighton had better recruits. With McDermott now at ISU, the playing field is now more in McDermott's favor. It may take another year or so to recover from WM, but success will happen.

I don't think he out-recruited Iowa State with these two . They just looked at what we had already recruited and didn't see as much playing time here as they will get at Creighton.
