The QB article was assigned to me. Writers don't just write about whatever they want. You get assignments and you do them. That's the job. Thanks for your input. Personally I don't think you need to defend it at all. Keep on keeping on, the other 99% of the people like it and that's all you need worry about. | | |

Why were the posts by ISU0454 fan deleted? If he deleted them on his own, fine, but I sure hope a moderator didn't delete them. Being a journalist is opening yourself to public criticism based on what you write. It goes along with it.
With that said, I'm glad he wrote about Hamga. There has been a lot of speculation among Cyclone fans that we may have a chance at him now that he has reopened his commitment. While Chris doesn't completely shoot the possibility down, he let us all know that it is something that is highly unlikely to happen. That's good enough for me.

Beas is wishful thinking on many people's parts.
Look, we signed a prospect that was given 5 stars by Rivals. None of the other services have him ranked that high, even though the consensus is that he is a good player, who has a chance to be great.
Beas is a 4 star recruit, and I get the feeling that many see Brackins, and think that all of a sudden Iowa State is a destination for top basketball talent. I hate to tell people this, but even going by the Rivals rankings, Craig is just the second 5 star player that Iowa State has ever signed. McDermott has proven that he can recruit, or at least hire people who can. He will bring many good players in, and has done so already. But it's not going to happen just like that.
I understand that Hamga and Steiger are roomates, but that has very little to do with what each of them are going to do in terms of where they go to college. Prep schools are like colleges in that the coaches there recruit the kids that play for them. It's not like there are many guys on these teams that grew up together, and best friends.
I agree we should always inquire about any top player, but it will take a lot of time before we can go toe to toe with Kansas for a kid, and win because we're Iowa State.

Good stuff Chris..... so Alford is Simon Cowell without the accent....does that make Craig Neal-- Ryan Seacrest? Neal and Alford always seemed a little handsy. I doubt Tim Hardaway would want to play for them.

Amen, brotha. Criticism's part of the game. If you or I wrote that piece on Hamga and were criticized, I doubt it would be deleted.
Regardless, I did enjoy the article...what little information it had.

Hey guys, here's my point. Just like all the rest of us, I look forward to Chris' articles every week. Wouldn't it be great if he had enough info to post one each day! But in his BB article, 3/4 of the peice is devoted to something that's NOT going to happen for ISU. If he's going to give us only one article per week, make it count more than that. As far as the FB info -- ISU22 could have told us all that. Chris can do better.

I think the criticism is justified. Hamga is NETFAN's pipe dream, it's not worth responding to NETFAN by writing an article about something that was never going to happen.
As far as the football stuff, I would bet that from the writer's point of view, or the writer's challenge, it's darn near impossible to get anything but cliches out of Chizik. Gene's not good copy at this point.

I'll take the blame for this. I must have misread them because I took them more personally against Chris than I guess the rest of the members did. I thought they were attacks more on him than anything else so I deleted the posts. I hate deleting or moderating anything at all but I was heading off to a quick meeting that I couldn't miss and made a quick reaction that in hindsight probably wasn't needed. I apologize to ISU0454 for deleting those two posts.
As far as Hamga goes, I do think he's out of reach for us but I think we have some other options that could pay off just as well down the stretch. I haven't watched video of Hamga since he's been out of contention for ISU for quite some time but I've seen some footage of some other guys we're looking at and I think we've got a few good prospects that we can continue to pursue.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player. |

kudos to ISU0454 for expressing his opinion and then defending it, even after being censored by the powers that be. we're all cyclone fans here but that doesn't mean we all have the same opinion about everything. keep it up ISU0454, don't let the man keep you down

Feel free to express your opinion and I highly encourage it.
