Jeremy

I said on the weekend that I would be posting some additional recruiting news and have finally made all the phone calls to be able to get the latest information. Instead of going in to a lot of details for each of the players, I am going to categorize them with their interest in ISU based on the conversations I've had in the past 36 hours.

The players are not in order of their interest within each category but rather are in the order that I discussed them. There are more players than those listed below but these are the names that I have either talked about in the past 36 hours and players that I have not been asked to keep quiet about.

There are some possible stories this week with regards to Dale Vanwright. Vanwright originally committed to Colorado but has since decided not to pursue that opportunity. ISU has been in contact with Dale and things are going very well as of right now. It is undetermined if Dale would be a '06 or '07 signee if he made a decision yet this month. Many schools are looking at him as an '07 target as of right now based on scholarships but he is willing to play in '06 for the right school. Florida has offered him for '07 based on one source and Nebraska, Texas A&M, and Arizona State are looking at him as well.

Highly interested in ISU:
Dale Vanwright - 2006 or 2007 Class
P'Allen Stinnett - 2007 Class
Jamine Peterson - 2007 Class
Andre McFarland - 2007 Class
Malcolm Delaney - 2007 Class
Diante Garrett - 2007 Class
Melvin Goins - 2007 Class
Jeremiah Kelly - 2008 Class
Darius Gabriel - 2008 Class
Dominique Buckley - 2008 Class
Travon Woodall - 2008 Class

Moderately interested in ISU:
Blake Hoffarber - 2007 Class
Dwight Buycks - 2007 Class
Jon Leuer - 2007 Class
Jacob Pullen - 2007 Class
Jeremy Robinson - 2008 Class
Lewis Jackson - 2008 Class

Undetermined level of interest:
Eshaunte Jones - 2007 Class

Jeremy,

how good is this vanwright kid? is there a better chance that he will be a 2006 recruit? are we going to recruit him no matter what if he is 06 or 07?

Looks like VanWright is a small forward. Wouldn't he and Wesley Johnson be playing the same position? Personally, I'd like to see a post player instead of another swing guy... Just my 2¢ (but, I'm not the coach either)

Honostly, I'm torn. I feel Brackins might start at PF from day one. I just have a feeling about this guy. I also think Alex Thompson is going to start from day 1 (07-08). So the more I think about it, the more realize we just might not need another big...

Cory Johnson will be a sophomore, Ross and Thompson juniors, Jiri a senior, and Brackins a frosh. Throw in 6-7 Wesley and Rahshon and we got 5 bigs and 2 that can spot minutes possibly at the four.

So as far as the 07 class goes, I still want Stinnett REALLY bad and I'll take whichever of the 3 PG's that's looking at us (I figure the one that commits to us is the best one!).

That leaves 1 more schollie for 2007 OR it zero for 2007 if Vanwright somehow joins the team this fall. If this guy can play SG for us next season in some sort of backup role, then I want him, now. If not, I want to take the best possible prospect left in the 2007 class, which I'm thinking might be McFarland.

Hey Jeremy,

I have heard nothing but amazing things about Darius Gabriel.

What do you think the changes are of him being a clone?

Vanwright was the #1 recruit of Colorado going into this fall before he de-committed. He'd be a solid pickup, although i think the posters who are stating we've already got several players at that position ( W Johnson, C Johnson, Clark) raise a valid point.

Two big questions here:

1. Since he had signed a LOI with Colorado, he won't be able to sign or play with another program for 2006, right?

2. We don't have a scholarship to offer for 2006, so is he going to walk-on if he comes on this year?

I don't see him coming in in 2006 as viable, based on these two problems.

He didn't actually de-committ. He was denied admission to Colorado and his appeal was also denied. Although he apparnetly was cleared by the NCAA Clearinghouse. He was granted a full unconditional release from Colorado.

Do you have a source on that? Daniel Brown, another CU recruit, was denied admission (story here: http://www.denverpost.com/colleges/ci_4064289 ), but i haven't seen anything indicating that Vanwright was denied admission. And since CU reported Brown's admission denial, i don't know why they wouldn't report Vanwright's as well.

True, but when a coaching change occurs, just about every D-I school will grant an unconditional release, since high school kids largely select schools based on the playing style and personality of a head coach. CU didn't change coaches, and i haven't seen anything that says that Vanwright was unconditionally released. My CU friends tell me that the Vanwright de-commit has got the coaching staff puzzled in Boulder, and they don't know why he did it.

Here is the article from ESPN when he first decided not to go to Colorado. This says he is looking at prep school, and it sounds like he is able to play in the fall.

PharmCy is correct, i found an article stating Vanwright was denied admission at BuffZone.com...

Not that i didn't believe, just that i was born skeptical

If he can't get in at CU, will he be able to get in at ISU?

Jeremy,

Now that P'Allen is waiting till fall to make his college choice, do you think his interest in ISU is waning??? I hope not but I cant help but wonder. I understand that he is a great player and something like this is expected but do you think that he will still be a cyclone??? Thanks in advance.

God Bless America
