Re: (Open) CF Mafia Game #1 - INNOCENTS WIN!

The lying strategy works better earlier on.... when the real detective is too valuable to lose. His role is to check to see who is mafia. He would probally want to positively ID a mafia member before identifying himself... of course if you lie about being the detective the real detective will probally investigate you. When there is only one mafia member left and the detective knows who it is, it's best to come out and say you're the detective and so and so is mafia, as the innocents can vote to kill the mafia member (this also works if there are 2 left and you're getting near the end, or you think the mafia is after you)

If the doctor is still alive, he can also save the dective until he is eliminated, so in some cases coming out earlier is a good strategy

If you're lying when there is one guy left, that lie will become very obvious very quickly, so it works best at the very beganning or maybe the very end where the mafia only needs one more person to be ousted

As for the nights the mafia didn't kill anyone, correct me if I'm wrong but can't the mafia insted choose to ask if someone is the detective or doctor, rather than killing that night? I didn't really bother to re-read the rules as I was just an innocent but... I seem to recall that being the case

Oh we will fight, fight, fight for Iowa State, and may her colors ever fly!

Never played it that way.

As far as how gameplay goes, I knew I was toast after the second night when Mafia #2 was eliminated and I was already being identified as a possible mafia. I probably should have gone after thunderdave last night and played the "I'm being set up" card instead of going after someone who voted for him the previous day and played the "that looks entirely suspicious" card...

Attempt #2
The ongoing story of the persistent attempts to get to the other side.

The mafia didn't kill someone on Night 2 because they tried to kill CTAClone (the doctor) who had protected himself. So the mafia knew (or should have known) that CTAClone was the doctor since he didn't die. The biggest task for the mafia is to try to find and eliminate the detective.

Kyle, yes the doctor and detective can ID themselves at any time although its not usually wise early on. The big key if for the detective to leave clues in case he is whacked at night.

There are TONS of strategies for this game...which is what makes it fun. On the other site I played this, there was 22 games over the course of a year and none of them played out the same.

Maybe I need to understand the rights that a detective has to really know what sets him apart! He's guessing the same as us, does he have "more access"? Then I could see that eliminating him early would be smart.

You can tell that towards the end is turned away for a free for all of voting, and more of a strategy game and deep thinking on how to vote. Tough part is making sure your able to get in and leave comments for every day, otherwise you become suspicious in your actions.

The detective basically sends me a PM each night asking about the status of a player in the game. I simply respond with that person's role in the game...mafia, innocent, or doctor.

Same with the doctor...I get a PM from him each night saying who he would like to protect. If the mafia choose to eliminate that player during the Night (like what happened on Night 2), that person doesn't die.

Go ahead and create a Game #2 signup thread and we can start another one when we get enough people...hopefully we can get 16 this time and have 4 mafia members.
