PS3 question

Hey you guys with PS3's and playing blue-ray dvd's. Is there a way to hook this up so you can go through a home theater speakers? I got a good home theater system but it just plays normal DVDs. I was thinking about upgrading my gaming system to a PS3 and that way I can blue-ray movies but I thought it would be much better if I could somehow get it to go through the home theater. Maybe through the Aux channel??

Re: PS3 question

You could possibly do it, but then your losing your true blu ray quality. I have mine hooked up with an HDMI cable into my TV, then have audio out cables from the TV to my surround sound system.

I'm assuming you'll have the HDMI cable going into the TV, and then you'll need to go to TV or whatever on the surround sound. Then run the TV to the surround source. I know that's how our living room works at least.

Too late.

Re: PS3 question

Can the HDMI and optical output be used at the same time? That would be ideal for my home theater setup but I have yet to try.

I don't think so, but I'm not really sure.

Then why are you using BluRay?

Re: PS3 question

I currently am not. I am clueless to this and thats why I was asking. I wanted to see if I could watch the blue ray moving on the ps3 but still go through my surround sound theater speakers or if I maybe needed some other converter box or if just using the ps3 would suffice.

I believe you have to go HDMI to watch BluRay...I could be wrong however...don't have any BluRays because they're too expensive. I know when I play it in surround with the HD I have the HDMI cable from my PS3 to the TV which takes care of video and sound, and we have cables that go from the TV to the main Bose box to get the sound in surround.

Re: PS3 question

Well that settles it, I am pretty sure my TV doesn't have HDMI cable connection.

Just did some checking. HD on the TV is necessary for BluRay to work. Without it, it will play the movie in standard definition.

I played Blu Ray movies on my ps3 with the standard cable. It was in blu ray, but just didn't look as good as it does now that I have a second HDMI cable...

It's BluRay, but it's not BluRay I guess would be the correct way to put it. A little more crisp, but not full blown HD.

Yes. That would be a good way of putting it. It's not quite blu ray, but it's not standard definition either...

Yes they can, in fact, that is the best way to do it.
