Wii going for world domination.

Call it a gimmick if you want, but nintendo definitely hit a homerun this time around.

Wii Supply Might Fall Short Of Christmas Demand - MegaGames console
"We are really intending to increase the shipments to the U.S., especially compared to last year," said Satoru Iwata. "However, I can't give you a 100% commitment [that you'll be able to find a Wii this holiday season]. What I can commit myself to is that Nintendo is going to do its best to supply as many Wii hardware units as possible in order to meet demand there."

Wii Sales Surpass Xbox 360 And PS3 In USA - MegaGames console

Wii sales surpass PS3 and 360.

Not surprising.

However, it'll be interesting to see if Nintendo's manufacturing is affected by the patent lawsuit they're going through right now.

Wii controller lawsuit costs Nintendo $21m | Register Hardware

Anascape Inc. is basically some guy out in Reno that is a patent troll and has already gotten settlements from Sony and M$. The lawsuit is for Nintendo's Wii Classic controller (the gamecube controller basically) but I'd bet this issue is going to affect manufacturing

"I just back into town and I hear all this stuff, and Buster Olney is making my team up now and [Genske] wants to tell me who is going to pitch here. No one is going to tell us who to put on our team and no one on ESPN is going to tell us who should pitch for my team. " -Gardy

Its amazing how there is always someone who is waiting with a plan to screw the big guy. One thing I dont understand is why they didnt freak with the Gamecube?

Either captain jack*** didn't yet own the patents (again this guy just buys up patents and makes a living off of suing for infringements) or didn't feel Nintendo had enough market share yet, i.e. wouldn't get as much out of them

I hate people that patent obvious things and then sue, it is really stifiling innovation anymore.

Wonder if he could be counter-sued to shut him up. People like this need to dissapear. Hey nintendo, I know a guy, just give me free games for life and I will make all of your problems go away.

Nintendo has done an amazing job at purposely limiting production to keep demand high. I think the cost is a huge factor at it's sucess. Also incorporating the download of old school 8 bit games was genius. I do think however, it is only a matter of time before Nintendo runs out of new game concepts with the wii.

PS3 and Xbox got off by targeting the die hard gamer and no one else. The systems are absolutely amazing, but is an 8 year old going to be able to pick up a control and play Metal Gear Solid 4? No way!

I'm glad I own a Wii, but also glad to own PS3. They both kick ***. Wii has its cartoonesk, fun concept games, and the PS3 has its graphically beautiful, and intense games.

I pose this question.... If price was not a factor, what would you want?

I also have both a PS3 and Wii but I play PS3 a TON more than Wii. Wii got old pretty fast for me. PS3 is hard for me to stop playing because the graphics are sweet and I'd rather play NCAA Football and other sports games, which absolutely blow on Wii.

Re: Wii going for world domination.

My wii never gets played, but I still bought one because it was so new and innovative I had to have one. I'm not really sure what sells the wii exactly, I guess ease of use? Accessibility? It's really not fair to compare the wii with the PS3 or the xbox360, their completely different beasts. The wii is not a next gen console, hence it's cheaper price, poor graphics etc.

And I, Bruno, will dive 1,000 feet into a block of cement. On my head, yet!

The Wii is great for fun, simple games. Lots of cool stuff for my 10 year old that I can have fun playing as well.

Re: Wii going for world domination.

I have both a Wii and 360. I basically buy nintendos because I love their exclusive games. I buy the other console for their exclusive games. It all depends on your tastes really. I cant get enough Mario and Zelda. I have a feeling with Nintendo's success with the Wii that the next system may be in line with the other consoles for graphical power. Innovation saves them every time. Look at the DS, everyone said the dual screens would be a gimmick. It was a superb idea that has created so much more fun.

Does this Wii sign the scorecard, or is that relevant?

Re: Wii going for world domination.

Since I have gotten my PS3 (2 weeks ago) I haven't turn on my Wii since.... I'm contemplating selling it for a pretty penny. I would hate to miss out on future Mario games, and Zelda... plus I love downloading old 8bit games, like River City Ransom.

I just have one small issue for the PS3.... I have bought too many awesome games. I bought Metal Gear Solid 4 and got addicted to that, but then NCAA football came out and I can't put down the damn control. I play one game, and get angry I haven't signed a recruit, so I play another, and another, and another.... it is very sick. I don't have time to play metal Gear 4 and NCAA football..... Damn it!
