Couldn't he have, oh, I don't know, given it straight to Vince Young right after he owned them in the NC game?
I mean it isn't like Bush didn't know that his parents had moved to a much nicer house that it sound like they had no way of being able to pay for.
This move is long overdue. Now just give it to Young, the best player that year.

Wow. What a stand up guy.
In other news, I'll be sure to pay my taxes this year.

Re: Bush forfeits Heisman on his own
Very unexpected, what I'm curious about is how where his parents lived affected his play on the field. I know he broke NCAA rules but its not like he cheated. I don't think he should have HAD to give the trophy back but its cool that he did. Why aren't we taking gold gloves or world series rings away from people who did actually cheat?

I agree, they should be going after gold gloves and MVP trophies (individual awards) at the very least.
And, by the way, despite the semantics, Bill did have sex with that girl.

This move is long overdue. Now just give it to Young, the best player that year. No - the Heisman Committee has already stated that, in the event that Reggie had been "stripped" of the trophy, that it would not be reawarded to Young, that there would officially be "No Winner" for 2005.
As far as Bush giving back the Heisman, good. Perhaps now we can put this story behind us in, say, sometime within the next 5 years... Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice? Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this. -

This was not a performance enhancing situation. He should keep the trophy.

The ballots state that "In order that there will be no misunderstanding regarding the eligibility of a candidate, the recipient of the award MUST be a bona fide student of an accredited college or university including the United States Academies. The recipients must be in compliance with the bylaws defining an NCAA student athlete." He was not in compliance, so he was ineligible to receive the award.
