Kind of surprised by Michigan, even though it's enormous. I've always heard it's more of a wine and cheese crowd there.

I'm surprised that Washington is at #27. Just the design of the stadium has to make it deafening, good team or not, lots of fans or not. Those overhangs are known to really amplify the crowd noise there -

Ugh, Bleacher report. What a slap in the face to real journalism.

Re: Top 50 Loudest College FB Stadiums
Anyone know of any real studies that at least use a db reading on the field during a game?

A buddy of mine played at Michigan and at Alabama(And even ISU - He played for NIU) a few years back. He said you can't hear yourself think when Bama come out to "Sweet Home Alabama," and that Michigan is very quiet.

Re: Top 50 Loudest College FB Stadiums
The Big House is infamous for being a huge stadium that is pretty quiet. The one time I went to a game there, that was the impression I got. Definitely NOT on par with other 100k+ stadiums, IMO.
Hell, Michigan fans themselves will tell you how quiet it is... The Wolverine Blog On Michigan Stadium, Noise, and Keys http://mgoblog.com/diaries/michigan-...day-experience (Though here, he basically says that the "quietness" is due to the classy fans witnessing a historic team...or something like that)
And then you have stadiums like The Shoe, Happy Valley, The Swamp, Death Valley. Big stadiums with big noise.

Most recently, Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge had a decibel reading of 130 against Florida back in 2007.
I've read elsewhere that Autzen Stadium in Oregon hit a decibel level of 130 or so.
I'd love for somebody with a knowledge of acoustics go to the major stadiums and figure out how loud these places can get. Usually, decibel readings are just the loudest it got during a game. More interesting would be which stadium was the loudest, on average, from start to finish.

And when ISU comes out, you can hear a pin drop--because most of the fans are still in the parking lots?
We got a new Marshall here in town, and his name's Paul Rhoads, and the times, they is a'changin'.

Re: Top 50 Loudest College FB Stadiums
Michigan too high, Washington too low. And if they're talking about on a consistent basis, then Oregon too high.
