Not to mention that, even with a reworked Big 12 television contract, perhaps only Texas, Oklahoma, and A&M will even come CLOSE to pulling in that kind of chunk of change. Hey, I never said that it wasn't profitable. I said that its programming is a joke. And it is. It's laughable that a channel like that is capable of destroying college sports as we know it, but it's true. Do I wish that ISU had that kind of funding? Sure. But I would also feel like my school was stealing...forcing the average person to subsidize my sports program with their cable bill. A majority of people that pay for that network don't care at all for the Big 11 or its teams.

Re: Jon Miller's BTN show gets canned
I would love to have Jon back on the morning show. Even though he is a hawk fan, he has been better than anyone else that has tried out the past couple weeks.

Re: Jon Miller's BTN show gets canned
Jon's morning show was horrible and I hope to never hear him again. KXNO SUX!

If you don't think having talk radio continually beat down a program does not have a negative effect, you are crazy. If you think Jon and Matt continually telling fans that a school will not succeed or that their AD is a snake oil salesman, or the program will never get better does not negatively affect a school you are blind. Jon was openly hoping ISU would drop to conference USA/MWC. He failed to report or discuss the Big East option. Even though he knew about it. Do you understand the ramifications falling to a lesser conference would have on all of ISU. Not just sports but the research and academic side? The enrollment? Do you understand how many lives that would affect? When someone openly roots for the University I love, where I met my wife, my best friends and my first daughter was born, to fail without any regards to what they are doing or how it affects peoples lives...I do not feel one bit sorry for their failures. Especially when they are as arrogant and conceited as Jon.
Besides, Jon will do just fine. This really irritated me. The way that everyone in the local media dismissed this even after the Big East commish said that if Big 12 armageddon had occurred, that they would have offered the Forgotten Four. The Big East was ready to have us if we were available. We were not going to the CUSA/MWC.

Let's be honest, he didn't do that but if you think the media constantly reporting that a team belongs in a lesser conference does not have an affect, you re crazy. It was 2-3 weeks of negative advertisements that companies would pay tens of thousands of dollars to get. That has a negative affect on fringe fans, bandwagon fans, the exact fans that ISU needs to grow the program.

After being told by the media that complaining about the media's impact on branding is nonsense, they like to come on CF and tell fanatics that it is nonsense. Funny, isn't it.
Anyone read Fry's book? Old Raisin Face understood this.

Do you have any idea what kind of effect going to Conference USA/MWC would have on Iowa State University? Not just the athletic program but the research money, the enrollment, the negative effects on academics? As wrong as it is, sports success has a direct effect on student enrollment and their long term ties to the university. It gives a bond and reason for future donations from alumni. It doesn't matter if you like it or not, it is fact. Just ask people that work in donations if it is easier to get alumni to donate when the athletic program has success vs failure. There is a great sense of pride associated with success and that pride carries on to other parts of ISU. ISU athletics are being pushed to become financially independent. right now they take millions from the general fund. You don't think that ISU could use $2.5-3 million somewhere else? Ask the professors that got wage freezes or had to make departmental cuts. Why would Universities fund athletic programs that lose money? Because they understand the marketing value that ISU playing football on national TV has for the university.
I am sorry if I do not like people that constantly rip on my University. The place that provided a great education for my wife and I. The place I met my wife and had our first child. The place where I met my best friends. The place where my daughter will be attending to get her degree.

MBB would have played in one of the top 2 conferences either way.

I know that for a fact. Not one single mention. Then when the Big East Commish said as much...nothing.
I don't think people have any clue how going to a lesser conference would affect the University as a whole.

They don't even need to care because they forced themselves onto basic cable! Who cares if no one is watching 99.9% of the time?? What a freaking joke that network is. ISU fans ripping on the BTN while their team has a hard time getting on the air. FoxSportsNet is a joke. The production value of FSN is a joke. Other conferences laughed at the BTN, but it is very profitable, allows the schools to be televised nationwide, and supply money to the schools.
I feel for Jon because if he had a cohost that had any sort of personality, it would have worked. Also, the constant changes the BTN threw at it didn't allow them to get their feet set.
Bottomline is the BTN works and those that rip on it are either oblivious or jealous.
