If they really asked Miss State for $180,000 they may have thought MSU wouldn't say anything since they were also involved in the pay for play plan. Just because they didn't offer the money they may have thought it was safe. Plus, it sounds like Cam was alot closer to the MSU staff and wanted to go there so it may have been a play to get MSU to step-up their offer so he could go there still vs. Auburn since it happened in January before he would have been stuck with Auburn. (unless he was an early enrollee, then my point is moot.)

This isn't going to be a swift Chizik treatment like ours was. They're going to draw the pain out on this one.

I like that the ruling won't be until after the season (and maybe bowls) are completed. They actually could win and then forfeit the National Championship.

OK, I'm not sure I like it. The picture of that happening is pretty incredible either way.

The smartest ones don't get caught in stories like this. This looks like a "stupid is as stupid does" sort of story.

This story is great.

If this is true, my guess would be that their thought process was that it's a bidding war. How do we know that Mississippi State wasn't the one to offer 180k? They offer that, Auburn offers 200k and they tell Mississippi State that they need to counter offer to get the goods. Mississippi State can't afford it so they go and report it like a woman scorned.

From what I understand there is no rule against asking for extra benefits. Sure, it makes you look like scum bag, but they have to actually prove that he received cash for anyone to get into any trouble for this.

Funny how this blows up before the Alabama game.
