Both Herbstreit & Dienhart say Rich Rod will be fired

Re: Both Herbstreit & Dienhart say Rich Rod will be fired
1. Herbstreit said if they lost. He also named Les Miles the coach at Michigan 4 years ago.
2. Dienhart doesn't know anything. Never has.
David Brandon has stated numerous time that this evaluation will go on after the season. Are you honestly telling me that they will fire him even if he wins this weekend and then wins a bowl game? That's ridiculous. I happen to think it won't be very interesting with the exception of maybe a DC search.

And as even Jon Miller has accurately pointed out, this defense is Rich Rod's, not Greg Robinson's. It was Rich Rod's idea to go from the 4-3 of last year to the disastrous 3-3-5 of this year. Robinson's base D has always been a 4-3.
This is RR's program, not someone else's.

Re: Both Herbstreit & Dienhart say Rich Rod will be fired
I think RR will be there next year and if he wins this weekend, there's no doubt about it. That's 8 wins with a chance at nine which is dramatic improvement. There haven't been academic issues, in fact there has been very good academic results. David Brandon has gone out of his way to tell recruits this same thing. I know to take it with a grain of salt but they aren't asking, he is telling. I think the outlook for the offense next year(They graduate 2 easily replaceable seniors) along with the fact there are 10(!) Freshmen in the two deep this year with 5 starting give hope that there could be a tremendous jump.
I agree with you that this is RichRods defense, only because he hired Greg. Even in the most fundamental things, this defense is poorly coached. They are not put in a position to succeed a lot of the time. Now, you may say, "Where's the talent?" It's there, but it's young. RR has had two classes so his guys are sophomores or RS Fr. Well, 5 of those guys have started this year. That is quite a few on defense. Where are all the seniors and Juniors? Well, two are hurt, one left for the NFL. Those were big problems. The thing that worries me most is that RR seems to control the defensive scheme too much. He did it with Scott Shafer as well. He then fired Shafer and now he has a respectable defense. IMO, it doesn't matter if they run a 4-3 or 3-3-5 this year. They aren't going to be good, especially with Mike Martin banged up. IMO, there is just way too much youth.
If I were guessing what would happen, I would say that RichRod is retained. I think this because no one will turn this thing around in a year and RR is bringing in tremendous talent. I think Greg will be let go and I think a very large play will be made to go get Jeff Casteel. They don't need an amazing defense. They just need an average one. I think it goes without saying, though, that it's 10 wins or bust in 2011.

First of all it was such a dramatic change in both scheme as intensity. You were going to lose players. You look at year 1 and RR had nothing offensively. In year two, he had freshmen QBs and a few other young guys, with a mediocre line and some average defensive players.
I, for one, don't get the sense that the boosters are as upset as just casual fans. I think most of them can understand some of the challenges.

Re: Both Herbstreit & Dienhart say Rich Rod will be fired
How do you fire a coach that has improved his record every year and will recruit speed and talent, that I feel, will make them national title contenders again. This would be a stupid move imo if this did happen.

Re: Both Herbstreit & Dienhart say Rich Rod will be fired
As an anti-michigan football fan I hope he is there forever. His win total may be going up but look at his conference record. It would be 2-1-3 with wins against bad teams for the most part. Plus getting 7 wins is not exactly hard at Michigan even with changing schemes.

He'll get fired and they will hire Harbaugh

Re: Both Herbstreit & Dienhart say Rich Rod will be fired
With a win in Columbus, all bets are off.
If there's another likely loss to OSU, I think RR's future hinges on Jim Harbaugh's availability. It's natural to compare the two for the last 3 years.
Just look at what Harbaugh has done in the same time period: taken one of the worst BCS programs in the country and made Stanford a national bully.
RR also named himself the special teams coach, and they have regressed every year he's been there.
As for Michigan improving from 5 to 7 wins...this is Michigan we're talking about, not Purdue. They're still miles from the likes of Wisconsin, Iowa, OSU, even Penn State.
It's Michigan. -

Re: Both Herbstreit & Dienhart say Rich Rod will be fired
If they fire RR, would they then completely re-tool the offense again?
That seems dumb to me?

That seems dumb to me? Yes but if he is not going to win, they will have to do it eventually.
