Stronger rumor: Dana Holgorsen is Pitt's "top choice"

From a Pttsburgh Post-Gazette blog a few minutes ago:

"At any rate, the search is still focused heavily on Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen, who, we have confirmed, has indeed interviewed for the job and multiple people have told me is still Steve Pederson's top choice and could ultimately be offered the job down the road here pretty soon if things continue to go down the path they have seemingly been on for the past two days."

One candidate off the board?

All strong rumor means is that it's being stated by multiple sources - it doesn't mean it's going to happen. Just like Gruden to Miami was a "strong rumor"

Wasn't a shot at you tornado man, sorry it came off that way. But realize when one person writes about it that doesn't mean it's a strong rumor.

This is looking like Holgorsen's best opportunity at being an HC though right? You would think a guy in his position would be all over the Pitt job. Just my thought.

I'm not worried about this yet, but I will feel better when the Pitt job is filled. Of course it's being filled by one of the more incompetent coach search AD's in recent memory. Just to torture us. I have yet to see anyone confirm that Rhoads has been contacted.

The original source of that rhoads rumor had said that Rhoads had until 6pm today to respond. As we have not heard anything, i think that rumor can be put to bed.

Oh, i agree. Nothing will make me happier than to hear the job has been filled by someone other than Rhoads.

I dont think Rhoads would leave for what he's making now or barely more... but we dont know what Pitt is willing to pull out for a coach. We know what they paid wannstedt, but he was hired 6 years ago, a lot can change in what you're willing to start a coach with, especially since a new coaching hire means a chance to re-approach the donors, especially any that were especially vocal about making a change. If Holgorsen turns Pitt down, it still wouldnt surprise anyone to see Rhoads somewhere on their list, and if theyre willing to pull out 2 mil for the job, my confidence that we can keep him goes down.

The uncertainty makes me uneasy, that's for sure.

I was kinda making fun of my own Al Golden thread.
Also, there's word out there that Muschamp has offered his OC position to Holgorsen. That would be an interesting dilemma for him. If he lights it up at Florida (and they have tons of athletes), it could vault him to much better HC jobs than Pitt.
