Re: Cost of Going to BCS Bowl for UConn
Nothing wrong with the BCS and the bowl system? This story should make everybody angry and push toward a playoff.

It's sad how much the schools are responsible for, ten's of thousands of tickets in some cases, hotels, having to pay per band member for the band to perform...it's sickening.

Re: Cost of Going to BCS Bowl for UConn
He's wrong about nobody turning down a bowl for financial reasons.
UCLA turned down the Humanitarian Bowl after forecasting a major financial hit for themselves.

Economy, travel distances hurting bowl ticket sales - NCAA Football - SI.com
Another article - this also covers non-BCS bowls !
Did we make money last year going to Phoenix ?

Re: Cost of Going to BCS Bowl for UConn
Should a school with a small fan base be penalized financially for winning a championship? The BCS and the bowl system need to go away. It's not about the money it's about who gets the money. A lot of injustice.

Re: Cost of Going to BCS Bowl for UConn
Ya, it's good we didn't go to a bowl. We get to sit back and watch all of the games and collct some fat cash from Beebe and friends.

Re: Cost of Going to BCS Bowl for UConn
It's quite simple. If you don't want to pay the $$, decline the invite.

Just to be devil's advocate, this is the price you may for wanting to be a major player in college football. UConn went D-IA in about 2000 or so and they have been unable to build up the fanbase to support the good job the program has done in the Big East.

We all know that the NCAA has less control over football than it does the MBB Tourney. That is why the ncaa pays the pepbands the stipends and that is why the schools pay the marching bands.
Why should a band play for free? they are providing a service and atmosphere. If you dont want that, dont pay for them to go. suck it. suck it long and suck it hard. Sports journalism is people who can't write interviewing people who can't talk for people who can't read. -

Teams won't have ticket allotments to sell? Good to know all of a team's expenses will be magically paid for in a playoff system.

So you think schools should have to pay to have their band there? Upwards of $60 per member? I'm sorry we can agree to disagree but that's just plain wrong imo.

Re: Cost of Going to BCS Bowl for UConn
The school should send a five piece band to save money. Hire cheerleaders for $20 at the bowl. Rent announcers.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -
Re: Cost of Going to BCS Bowl for UConn
Not UCONN, but Nevada cost itself and every other member of the WAC approx $1,000,000 by beating Boise State and keeping them out of a BCS bowl.
When I first read that I wondered who the school AD and President were really cheering for when the BSU kicker was lining up for his potential game-winning kick.
