Phillip Bates

I see he's gotten a few snaps tonight for Ohio.

Ironic the week he left was the week Arnaud hurt his shoulder vs Baylor, then AA had to go back out there and play injured vs Nebraska. Bates transfers to OU, and then Jackson gets injured early last year and gets another year of eligibility to play QB. The situation always seems to stay one step ahead of Bates.

Gotta give Chizik credit for doing what he could for not taking the Redshirt off Tiller back then. Cyclone nation isn't very high on Tiller right now, but they have an extra season to develop the guy.

Bates is not the answer for Ohio at QB, and the announcers just reiterated that. If he is not the answer for Ohio, he sure isn't the answer for ISU.

Yeah, at safety. Bad decision by him...he is never going to be a QB at the next level and he should have seen that and switched positions no matter what team he was playing for.

Forget about the next level, how about the current level. Callahan had more than his share of shortcomings, but at least he was the first to recognize that PB doesn't have what it takes to be a QB beyond the high school level.

The announcers were kind of harsh on Bates... several times... and Boo Jackson did throw for 3 TD's.

Phil (or Phillip or whatever his father wants him to be called now) finished the game with a -200.0 passer rating. He did run for 20 yards though.

I can't hang this on Phil, Philli, Philman, Philbob, or Phillip though. Solich's offense is so vanilla that Troy's undersized, but very fast DB's, ate Ohio up for the most part.

I hate to say this...ok, I'm drunk what the hell...but I really think Chiziks staff didn't pull the redshirt because he was NO way ready to play qb in the Big 12. Not so much that they were saving him for the future like everyone assumed. He just would have been a disaster. The more I think about it the more ****** I am about AA's career here. The guy just had every card stacked against him during his time at ISU.

My take from yesterdays bowl games,

1 NIU was a good football team
2 Glad we did not have Bates here playing QB Tiller throws a better ball
3 We need speed like what Troy has
4 Fresno State's Red uniforms + Blue turf + HDTV = hurts my eyes.
