Pittsburgh coach Mike Haywood fired after domestic violence charge - ESPN
They may just pull a West Virginia and hire the interim coach, especially if he wins the bowl game....

But the only thing that would worry me about Pitt getting CPR is if the money is right. Otherwise, I fully expect and confident that CPR isn't going anywhere.

Re: Pitt's new head coach arrested today
Maybe Nebraska can luck out and get rid of another problem like they did Pederson by suckering Pederson into taking Shane Watson off their hands. Watson was supposedly auditioning for a head job based on the offensive performance against Washington. We all saw how that worked out. Pederson is a real screw up. Tried to kill Big Red with the Callahan hire and now canned Wannstedt and his replacement in the same timespan.

Seems to me that Pelini has proved he is a great DC, but the jury's still out regarding HC.

Seems to me that Pelini has proved he is a great DC, but the jury's still out regarding HC. I say that Pelini is the problem. It almost always comes back to the head coach. He has the final say on recruits and on what type of scheme that he wants to have run. Pelini kept Watson who was a successful West Coast type guy under Callahan and has had him try to instill at least two different systems since he took over. It's a case of a head coach not able to settle on what he wants to run coupled with expecting a guy to run a system that he does not have expertise with. It wouldn't surprise me to see Pelini try to install yet another system next year.
Pelini has not been able to recruit enough good offensive players for the systems that he wants to run. When he gets a guy good enough to play on either side like Prince Amukamara, he almost surely goes to the defensive side. Under Callahan, Amukamara likely would have been a RB or possibly a WR.
You also have to assume that head coaches structure their practices to focus on what they know and do best. Pelini likely puts more input and reps into issues like blitz and coverage packages while Callahan focused on blocking schemes, pass routes, and how to scheme against the opposing defense. One almost universal truth in coaching is that when it comes to crunch time, coaches gravitate to what they are most comfortable with.

Seems to me that Pelini has proved he is a great DC, but the jury's still out regarding HC. I think the main thing is that they don't know what they want to be. Do they want to run a bunch of option concepts with TMagic or do they want to power it with Burkhead and Helu? Martinez is young so his flaws are excusable but when he was off, it seemed they had nothing. I was just thinking about Pelini actually. How much more time does he have? They have been decent, don't get me wrong, but Solich was better than decent and he won something. As of now, Pelini hasn't won anything.
