While Michigan is outstanding academically, it is not the same as Stanford from top to bottom in the student body, particularly among athletes. When I have visited Stanford, it seems like every student is serious about school and on an intercollegiete athletic team. Actually, Michigan, among athletes is one of the highest scoring SAT schools in BCS conferences. I think they were third a couple years ago and actually Iowa was in the top 10 though as well.

In no way do I think Michigan is the same academically but they are definately in the top tier. My point was just that it's not Cincinnatti.

Michigan football finished next-to-last in the number of players (3.0 or above) on the 2010 Big Ten all-Academic team, with 8. Ohio State had 22.

All I know is that I visit a lot of campuses and none has ever struck me as being so athetlically-oriented as Stanford. Yet, they are also so strong academically, including very high minimum standards.
And isn't Stanford the institution that usually wins the Athetic Directors award for best overall performation in Division I sports?
Edited because I looked it up. Stanford has won the Director's Cup every year since 1994-95. However, Michigan has been in the Top 6 for 8 of the last 10 years.

That kind of surprises me because the perception kind of seems like the fanbase is unengaged. I haven't been there so I could speak to how the campus acts though and I would assume that they are annually near the top of the Nation.

Re: RichRod done?
The school confirmed Wednesday that Rodriguez had been let go after going 15-22 in three years at Michigan and a handful of NCAA violations that have stained the once-proud program. The school can buy out the final three years of his contract for $2.5 million. Rodriguez's final season was pivotal and it didn't go well on or off the field. He helped the Wolverines win seven games to earn a postseason bid, then watched helplessly on New Year's Day as Mississippi State handed them their worst bowl beating - a 38-point drubbing - in the Gator Bowl. Rodriguez finished the year 7-6, but lost six of the last eight games. He was 1-11 against ranked teams and 0-6 combined against rivals Ohio State and Michigan State. Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -

I was of the opinion that if you can't get Harbaugh, you stay with RR and try to get a good DC. I'm not convinced Harbaugh is out of this thing because he hasn't come out and said it yet. I would have expected him to say something. I suppose I could make a list:
1. Chris Peterson
2. Pat Fitzgerald
3. Bud Foster
4. Gus Malzahn
5. Not Brady Hoke or Les Miles
That's all I've got and in makeing this list I have just removed anyone on it fom legitimate canidacy.

That's from Brian Cook. No offense to Chris at all because he does a different thing here, but Brian Cook runs a good ship over there. Some of the stuff he writes, like that little piece, is hilarious. That site is about as good as they get for content, it just isn't all that user friendly.
