What does that mean when comparing conferences? At most you can get 2 BCS spots. None of the other bowls after jan 1 (other than a couple of the junk bowls maybe) that arent BCS spots are open to teams outside their tie-ins.

Also... wasnt TCU's selection automatic? Thought the rose bowl had to select a non-bcs team.. otherwise you'd think if the rose bowl had a choice, theyd be selecting Stanford

    Re: Big Ten's big day!

The Big 10 and their enormous fan bases (tv sets, traveling, etc) is why they are in so many Jan 1 bowls.

I've never seen so many mediocre football teams playing on Jan 1.

Unfortunately for the B10, your fan base size doesn't determine the result on the field.

If Big XII teams were put in same spots would they have won?

No, I doubt it. The Big 10's victories came over us. If there is any transitive property to apply here, I'd say we would have trouble.

The SEC was much better than the Big 12, and TCU can beat anybody, and probably would have.

The Rose Bowl doesn't have to select a non-bcs school. It's typically a big 10/pac 10 game but since Oregon is in the Championship they picked TCU. TCU was an automatic BCS selection though based on their top 4 ranking.

    Re: Big Ten's big day!

    1. I was surprised by the MSU game (I didn't think it would be good, but ****** Almighty that was bad).

    2. Northwestern was also surprising (I fully expected them to get their a*ses handed to them, playing without Persa).

    3. The Big Ten has too many NYD games. Five games? Good God. Half the conference does not deserve what used to be a real honor. And the games themselves don't, either. The Gator and Ticket City Bowls should be pre-NYD, and the Outback is seriously pushing it. Games like the Cotton, Cap One (Citrus), and BCS games are the ones that warrant NYD status.

This has be a long day, that's for sure.

They should all thank Wisconsin for making the day more statistically respectable.

coachdags you need to do a little research. You are flat wrong about the bowls.

    Re: Big Ten's big day!

This has to hurt for Kirk to discuss this subject/graphic on the screen.
But still, "One of the worst Big Ten Jan. 1st days?"

Is there one that would be worse? If so, how?

I'm confident that someone here will find it, if it exists.
