BCS title game TV ratings down - Game On!: Covering the Latest Sports News
It will be interesting to see how ESPN spins that...
I just saw on the bottom line "BCS Title Game draws largest ratings for cable TV show in history"
Beat the 2009 Saints-Patriots game apparently..
They will spin in that they don't have to compete with over-the-air ratings. They compete with cable ratings...which I'm sure they did extremely well. Its all really a great business plan for ESPN. Moving to cable was going to bring ratings down no matter what.
Will the SEC have to start paying their players less as a result?
Having the BCS on cable is stupid.
ESPN doesn't care about viewers. They care about subscribers. And ESPN will continue to dictate whatever subscription fees they want to carriers.
The Big Ten Network model is the same -- and that sure hurt us last summer.

Quality fact checking by USA Today. Last year's game was on ABC since they had the rights to the Rose Bowl and any BCS game in that stadium.
600,000+ watched last night's game on ESPN3.com. TV ratings have never taken into consideration those watching at sports bars or watch parties with a few friends in a private home, now in 2011, you can say that the ratings don't take into consideration those 600,000+ who was on ESPN3.com watching the game.
600,000+ watching via web streaming is pretty impressive.
