Sounds like he "turned himself in" to me...  Maybe it's just my view on society, but when you are getting away with something, chances are you are going to keep doing it until you get caught. Just my opinion, but if I were to bet, it would either be that she is pregnant and they can't hide it or that some goody-goody on the team said "either you tell Coach or I'll tell him for you".
