    Just read the Tennesee Board

sounds like they like 3 coaches.

    Little Stevie Alford
Cuonzo Martin Missouri State. Before we hired Fred I thought this would be a great hire for us.
The last one is VCU's Coach. I would be carefull now to these coaches who have one great season and take a new job. I think Cuonzo would be there best bet.

Honestly, you could do a lot worse than Alford.

I'll bet Shaka Smart is introduced as the new Head Coach at Tennessee about 4 days after VCU loses in the tournament.

As a UT alum (got my Masters there) I would hate for Alford to become the Men's Bball coach!!!

VCU is certainly having a great run, and from what I've seen I'm impressed with Smart so far, but I think you already hit the nail on the head; only 2 years. Is he winning with his own guys yet or does he still have Anthony Grant's recruits?

Remember the cautionary tale of one Stan Heath; had an Elite Eight run quite a few years ago with Kent State and the old coach's recruits; was hired by Arkansas and didn't do a whole h*ll of a lot there, was fired there and then hired by South Florida 3 years ago I think, and still hasn't done a whole h*ll of a lot there either.

Alford would be a good hire for them. They will be looking for a coach with a squeaky clean reputation.

I don't. Smart is going to be the hot coach this off season. He will have a lot of other options, schools that aren't in the mess Tennessee will be in.

It's interesting to note some of the parellels between Tennesse and ISU with Pearl and Eustachy. This has not been a popular change down there.

I don't think Tennessee really has a choice here. ISU could have kept Eustachy, there were no NCAA issues there. Pearl is looking at a serious punishment. The NCAA ruling isn't expected until late summer, let's say they wait and Pearl is only hit with a suspension. Well now you're basically losing two recruiting classes, plus it's going to be extremely easy for other schools to paint you in a negative light. Or if Pearl is hit with a show cause penalty, Tennesse is thenforced to fire him and his entire staff in July or August, and try to scramble to hire a coach, who will then have to scramble to fill out his staff.

They are better off to just get this over with as soons as possible and move on.

Not only that, but with Kiffin and Dooley, as well. I don't hate Tennessee so I wouldn't wish Alford upon them, but hopefully they can turn this around and be in a better spot in both sports.

Well Grant didn't ever have a whole team of his guys either so maybe he just won with someone elses recruits too. I do agree though, I wouldn't jump on him quite yet if I were Tennessee and I don't think they will. They will want to land a big name, I don't know who but Smart isn't what they're looking for IMO.
The only bigger turnoff than finding out a woman smokes, is finding out she's a Husker fan.
