Any reason we should worry about Lutz leaving this year with an A10 job opening up, or do you think he'll stick around for one more?

Hiring a coach who's on the wrong side of 50 and just got fired from an A-10 job isn't going to excite any fan base. If Lutz wants another head coaching job he's going to have to look at a low mid major. I think he'll stay here for a few more years.

Yea, that makes sense. So don't start worrying until jobs start opening up in the Southland or Patriot League (that seems weird to say).

Great for Gregory. I think Georgia Tech is a big time job. TONS of talent down there and that is a basketball school. Great academics as well. I don't think he is a very good coach but I think he is walking into a place where he can be successful

When I was a kid, Bobby Cremins had Georgia Tech annually a top 10 to 20 program. Kenny Anderson was an amazing player in college.

With programs like N.C. State, Maryland and Wake Forest struggling, that third spot on the ACC totem pole behind UNC and Duke is there for the taking. Gregory shouldn't have much of a problem recruiting to GT...the question will be can he get it done as a coach in the ACC

He can't be worse than Hewitt. He was truly a terrible coach. Wasted so much talent that can through that program in the last five years.

In a related note Mark Montgomery, who has been Izzo's top assistant the last three years, took the Northern Illinois job, which really surprised me. His name has been rumored around a lot of much bigger openings during the last couple years. You would think the top assistant at MSU would be able to get a much better job than a low level MAC school.

I think Lutz (as I read from someone who posted it here) has one more year where he can't be a head coach without forfeiting his buy out from Charlotte. I think we have at least one more year with him. Plus if he stays and this team is dancing his stock rises drastically IMO.

Good luck to Brian Gregory. He is a big time coach that knows how to recruit and win. He really is a nice guy. I had really good experience with him while I was working at Dayton.

Lutz won't leave Iowa State for few years.

I agree with everything you said except the bolded part. 1 NCAA tourney birth last 7 years at Dayton after Oliver Purnell left him a lot of talent. Now Gregory brought in some nice talent but never did much with it.

I think any mid-major would jump at the chance to get Lutz when he is ready for his next head coaching job. He had an outstanding record at Charlotte, and I think most people saw his dismissal at Charlotte more as familiarity breeding contempt than because of the job he did there.

In Gregory's defense it was actually 2 NCAA births; 2004 and 2009, when they won as an 11 seed against West Virginia.

Was he on the unofficial list to replace McD before CFH was hired?
