Yes, what USC got was hardly a slap on the wrist, but the NCAA far from dropped the hammer on USC, either. If USC ends up more along the lines of SMU than Alabama, then that's their own damn fault, as the NCAA didn't even come close to treating USC the way they treated SMU. I disagree with you. Yes, Alabama recovered but it took some time. USC will be fine. I'm the minority but I think Lane Kiffin is a good coach and he has top notch assistants.
We also have to realize that the NCAA did treat USC like they treated SMU the first time around. SMU had many chances to quit doing what they were doing. If USC continues to do the same things, I assure you the result will be similar. Originally Posted by weR138 Do you mean a preemptive strike? You save face by getting rid of this guy and you get a coach who one could argue is better, not to mention younger.

I still think OSU is going to get off easy. There's no charge of lack of institutional control, which is the big one. And that just baffles me. The institution COVERED IT UP!!!!! How is that NOT a lack of institutional control?

Tressel never informing anyone at OSU other than the accused players is probably why they have managed to dodge the LOIC charge (so far). OSU admitted that they failed to uncover the emails between Tressel and the lawyer in their initial investigation, but that is all they've taken responsibility for. This is the whole point of that Deadspin article that was posted earlier.

Re: Major violations at Ohio State?
The only way OSU gets off "easy" is that they will have to "blow Jim Tessell away". Jim lied bigtime to the NCAA supposed without OSU's knowledge. To keep the splash from getting to big, I think Jim will be sacrificed.

What splash? They can just take the "nothing more to see here" stance UI takes.

Iowa's program is light years behind Ohio State's program. I don't see the hoks beating Ohio State anytime in the near future.

Re: Major violations at Ohio State?
If they have to vacate wins they should make Ohio State pay back the $20 million or whatever they got for playing in the Sugar Bowl. I'm sure all their revenue sharing buddies will be happy to give back their cut of that.

Hard to blame the University for a renegade coach. Then again.... you could consider that Tressell in his position at Ohio State as the football coach is all you need to drill them for lack of institutional control. Either way this thing stinks to high hell. If the NCAA doesn't slap Ohio State hard in this situation (especially after the fraud they called an investigation into Cam Newton) universities and fans around the country are going to be gunning for the NCAA. Somebody at the NCAA is going to go down for this one if the NCAA comes up limp again when it comes to dropping the hammer on blatant cheating.

Sadly, since the NCAA had already ruled on this case before the bowl game, their Sugar Bowl victory will stand no matter what the NCAA rules in August. So OSU could be looking at a 1-12 record with 10 vacated wins and their lone win being the Sugar Bowl victory.

THH and some other Iowa fans are dancing in the streets thinking they will get their first win over Ohio State in some time. Unfortunately if Ohio State vacates their win in that game it won't go down as a W for the hoks. It will be as if the game was never played.
I remember Jon Miller on the radio throwing himself and Saint Kirk a party when USC got hammered thinking that Iowa would be granted a W instead of that glorious L for the Orange Bowl beatdown they suffered at the hands of the Trojans. Pathetic.

This new case against the vest only makes that first ruling against the players look even worse. How on earth did the NCAA think it made sense to suspend the players for the next season but not the current season at the time that these NCAA violations were discovered? -
Re: Major violations at Ohio State?
What? The school that doesn't schedule "sisters of the poor?" Who at the end of the year beat only one final ranked team, by 5 whopping points?
Nah, it can't be them...
