this would ruin college sports because as the quotes in the article state if you can pay for it then you should have an advantage. this would make iowa state drop even farther behind the elite.

I think you have to set it similar to the scholarships, with strict limits.

What about putting it to just 10 players/team? Could you promote parity that way by getting some guys that might not be in the top 10 at one school to drop down a notch to take the extra cash there?

I wasn't aware you could do that... I was pretty sure the NCAA forbids you paying players regardless of amount (aside from money in scholarship form).

More or less putting a "franchise tag" on college players. Ridiculous.

If this happens the NCAA is just one step closer to being a professional league. Not only are they getting a free education, but also some money for living arrangements, food, clothes, etc.
I can hear the coaches now on recruiting visits: "Come to our school, we can give you more money than ____ University, you can buy some nice clothes, shoes, and electronics, on top of your full ride scholly... And I also see that you are considering ____ University, well they can't even afford to give you any money on top of your scholarship."
The level of corruption in the NCAA is exponentially growing.

The only way this could work is by capping the amount per athlete, per team. If this were doled out as an extra stipend along with the athlete's scholarship, I can see the benefits. If it only applies to certain athletes or certain sports, there would be too much room for corruption.

This will only turn out badly. If you are going to pay FB players, then you have to pay women's tennis players and soccer players the same. Otherwise there's going to be a lawsuit the second it's enacted. So, we're talking what would be an extra $1M a year to everyone's budgets and if you can't afford it, then you fall behind. IMO this keeps the little guy down and eliminates parity in college sports. ISU can probably afford it with the new TV money, but I think it is a terrible idea.

I don't think that anything that promotes more inequity in CFB than their already is is a good idea.

Agreed it would have to be the same for everybody otherwise this would ruin college athletics.

You are right. IMHO, the idea has merits but has to be implemented on a nationwide basis to all schools with as you said strict limits on amounts. All conferences have to agree on the same amount.

I worked with a track athlete at ISU for a while when I was in school, she had a limited dollar amount she could earn while working otherwise it would effect her eligibility.

So that only kind of works

Nice side of this is if it goes through we'll almost have to follow. It could just enough to set us apart from the smaller Florida schools we're often in competition with for some pretty solid kids.

So clothes and laundary is the issue here? Why didn't they just put a laundry facility in the Hickson Academic building? I think it would be fair for teams to issue extra "practice clothing" (i.e team logo-ed shirts, sweats and sweat pants). I am strickly against though giving players money to do with as they deem so.
