tOSU get the death penalty?
I doubt the NCAA will come down with the death penalty on The Ohio State, but it just seems more and more information is coming out. Now, Terrelle Pryor received 40K from somewhere, Tressel apparently knew a lot more than he already said? The NCAA could say there was a lack of institutional control. What do you all think? It just seems to be getting worse and worse.
Re: tOSU get the death penalty?
they'll get hit hard, but it won't be SMU "Death Penalty" hard. That won't ever happen again, especially not to a team in the Big 10.
Re: tOSU get the death penalty?
For the millionth time, a college program has to be a repeat violator within 5 years of the first violations to be facing the death penalty.
SMU got the death penalty because they had repeat violations after being hit by the NCAA.

And SMU actually had to repeat twice before they got it. OSU will get hit harder than USC though. This wasn't one guy. This was a whole program for about 10 years.

Yeah, SMU wasn't very smart. Watching the 30/30 movie on them. Seemed like they got in trouble one day, then the next kids are getting more money in SMU logo envelopes!

Ummm...they were on probation already when many of tOSU's issues were occuring.

That said, I see no way where the NCAA gives OSU the death penalty, but man would it be funny. What would the world do without THE ohio state university playing football for a few years.
Re: tOSU get the death penalty?
The NCAA will have to prove that violations from the institution go back to 2002, which will likely be quite hard to do. I don't see the death penalty, but it is certainly going to suck for OSU football and perhaps even a few other sports when the NCAA is done with them.

Here's the reason why tOSU will not get the death penalty:

It can be between two different programs within one university. Though I believe if we ever do see the death penalty again, it will be by repeat violations of the same sport in a university.
In this case of OSU, I don't see how the NCAA can justify handing the death penalty to the football program without doing the same to the basketball program. If it weren't for the basketball program being placed on probation 5 years ago, the football program wouldn't have to be sweating about the death penalty.
Re: tOSU get the death penalty?
I don't see the sanctions being any worse than they were with USC.
Re: tOSU get the death penalty?
I don't think that we will be seeing Ohio State in a bowl game for at least 5 years. there will be a loss of scholarships as well.

they'll lose scholarships and probably will have some form of post season ban. It won't be 5 years though. I'd say 2. They're going to make this very similar to USC, imho.
Did things go on that warrant more punishment? Probably, but the NCAA does not have subpoena power. They can't force anyone to speak with them or turn over evidence that is not covered by the Freedom of Information Act. This is going to limit the "proof" that they can get. On the other side, they're not bound by legal terms like "reasonable doubt" either, so they can dole out punishment without having that irrefutable proof.
