I guess I don't see ND being incredibly excited by the prospect of playing games in Ames, IA, Manhattan KS, Stillwater OK, etc. ND at least has a history of playing in Chicago, Ann Arbor, West Lafeyette, etc. They have no familiarity with Big 12 territory. I bet they like the idea of a Texas recruiting pipeline.
I'm not predicting that ND ends up in the Big 12, but I'd hardly call it crazy.
What sort of relationship does Texas have with ND?
Swarbick and Dodds are very close.

Re: ESPN reporting aTm will go, and 3 other teams MAY
ND would only join the Big 12 if it knew that it was going to be one of the four super conferences - and even then I'm skeptical that they would join the Big 12 over the Big 10 - the Big 10 has the Rose Bowl, and ND has a history on the West Coast.
Basically, in order to get ND, the Big 12 will NEED to destroy both the Big East & the ACC. Could happen. Should be a roller coaster ride.

Mizzou, Clemson, and Auburn all in the same conference....How can you have 3 teams in the same conference with the nickname Tigers ?

Re: ESPN reporting aTm will go, and 3 other teams MAY
Big 16:
Big 12 Division
Texas
OU
OSU
TTU
Baylor
ISU
KU
KSU
New Division
Notre Dame
BYU
Louisville
Cincy
Rutgers
WVU
NC State
UConn
Who knows how you align that, and it doesn't make much geographical sense, but all that ****'s getting thrown out the window. If Texas and Notre Dame are going to build a conference, there's your harem.

Re: ESPN reporting aTm will go, and 3 other teams MAY
As long as Texas and OU stay put, the Big 12 would be ok. They are the two straws that stir the drink in the league. We could add teams and hope for the best if college football armageddon is going to happen. I just hate the thought of other Big 12 schools having parachutes and ISU s**t out of luck
About the four teams going to the SEC...are Florida and South Carolina really going to allow this? I know S. Carolina probably doesn't have any pull but Florida cant be ok with their hated rival joining.

You're forgetting LSU. That makes 4

Re: ESPN reporting aTm will go, and 3 other teams MAY
I have a feeling that with the egos of Texas and ND, they won't want to be forced into a conference, they'd rather do what they want...including having their own network and choosing how to share revenue. Some schools are going to have to give into them, so I think the possibility of a ND/Texas conference is better than Texas to Pac12 and ND to Big 10.

Re: ESPN reporting aTm will go, and 3 other teams MAY
We could easily be left out in the cold on this one too. I'd say 50/50. This will certainly force UT/OU/OSU/TTech to the Pac 10.... there is no doubt about that.
The question for us is whether we'll make the cut for the remaining ACC/Big East conglomeration and I would say the only reason we even stand a chance, is that KU will be sought after. Hopefully we they can take us with, but quite possibly they will use all their credit just to get K-state on board.
If the Big East/ACC doesn't work out, then we probably have to get involved with the C-USA, which will probably add a coulple of Big East/ACC rejects, so it will be slightly better, but certainly not AQ or rolling in cash.
Not too big of a problem for basketball, but football would take several steps back.

Not too big of a problem for basketball, but football would take several steps back. We could keep the Big 12 name and AQ bid. This would suck, but we'd absolutely be able to stay AQ.

Basically, in order to get ND, the Big 12 will NEED to destroy both the Big East & the ACC. Could happen. Should be a roller coaster ride. Why would it need to be a super conference? Splitting the TV money 10-12 ways is a lot better than 16. The TV networks aren't going to boost their contracts enough to support the same level of payouts for 4-6 more teams. Smaller league is a quicker route to the national championship too. All these leagues are fighting for the best football schools they can get which is going to hurt all of their W-L records. Adding Nebraska to the Big 10 is going to result in everybody having more Ls on the their schedule.
ISU just needs stability, not the biggest party they can find.

Re: ESPN reporting aTm will go, and 3 other teams MAY
I'd say there's about a 1% chance of ND joining the Big 12, so why even talk about it?
If ND is going to be forced to join a conference, it will be the Big 10. Geographically it makes the most sense for them, and academically as well. It is the perfect fit. And the Big 10 wants them too. That is where they will go if forced to.
So forget all your scenarios with ND in the Big 12.
