Harrison, from my outside perspective, seems like he wanted the best chance to win an NCAA title and build a name/brand for himself before entering the NBA to maximize his potential for sponsorship contracts. Frankly, UNC/Duke/Kansas/Kentucky gave him the best, most realistic opportunity at that. Even with how bright the future looks with Fred I don't think we will see an NCAA title here before the time Harrison would graduate.
Just my opinion.

Just part of ISU's luck. Iowa bites and Woodbury turns down UNC to go there (help the home state). ISU bites and Barnes goes to UNC. Go figure.

Thank baby Jesus he went to NC. If he would have stayed would have meant more terrible years with McDoormatt.

Re: Ames' Harrison Barnes #2 MBB player
Remember the time when he picked his college at that big pep rally? They invited the whole Ames community, got all the ISU fans excited, people were ready to sing the ISU fight song, and then he went and Skyped Roy Williams? That was awesome. Made this Cyclone quite proud. Especially the way Gary Thompson even got roped into showing up and embarrassed. You just don't see class and character like that everyday anymore.
Can we please get a Raef Lafrentz, Nick Collison, and Kirk Hinrich thread going too? Nothing like giving attention to people who chose NOT to be Cyclones.

I don't fault the kid. He was a big time baller who deserved to go to a big time basketball school. Would I have LOVED it if he'd stayed in Ames for his college career? Absolutely. But he's going to be a great star in the NBA and I'm proud to see that he came from Ames.

Re: Ames' Harrison Barnes #2 MBB player
I could care less if he succeeds or fails as I am not from Ames. I dont get the love afair w/ HB with people saying they love him because hes from Iowa. Did they all love the players we lost to Kansas? No, they hated them.
I guess if you are from Ames it is different.

I guess if you are from Ames it is different. Agree 100%. I don't understand the love some people have for a guy who used everything ISU had to offer to help make him a way better player, and then spurned them when it was time to give something back. Where did his father play basketball again? Where did his mother work, for how many years? Where was he given access to compete with and learn from very talented and older division one basketball players?
