Notre Dame's new helmets

Don't like the finish of the gold part...the shamrock is kinda cool...on a side note....ND would fit really well in the Big 10 as they are always over-rated and have an undeserved sense of superiority.

Some traditions are to never be messed with, Notre Dame is one of them.

I don't understand the logic on traditional uniforms? Who cares? I wish Penn State would do something with their uniforms for just one week.

They do have an amazing history...I've seen Rudy....but in somewhat recent past they have done very little while still getting top level talent from all over the country. I should have further clarified my statement.

I think part of that has to do with the mindset in college football these days along the lines of coaching. I think ND in the past few coaching searches have tried to find the "quick fix" to their problem in hiring the hot name coach and have failed. In many cases around the country, this just isnt working.

I know Kelly was the hot name coach a few years ago, and to be honest, I wasnt a big fan. But I think he is taking positive steps in the direction of turning things around coaching wise. The defense is improving and the offense has the right people in the reigns (I hate Tommy Rees and want him to be replaced next year!). I'm a big ND fan and I'm always anxious to see what lies in store.

Having said that, I'm not sure whats up with the finish of the helmet this week. I dont like the swirls or whatever that is. I do like the new helmet design with the solid gold under the clear coat of paint so they actually look gold and not copper. I think the clover is a cool touch to mix things up but needs to be used sparingly as ND doesnt need helmet stickers.

They kind of look like Baylor's helmets but with a ginormous shamrock--which isn't the same color green as the facemask for some reason. Or rather, the fackemask isn't the same color green as the shamrock for some reason.

What did you guys think about the idea of an all white Iowa State uni? Including a white helmet. When you say this helmet sucks, it almost sounds if you are jealous that they get that. Don't get me wrong, i'm jealous of how Oregon gets to get a new uniform every weekend.

1. The concept art of the all-white uni looked pretty cool. However, most of the other combinations people have made on this board are as ugly as sin/Mac-esque. (all-yellow, all-cardinal, etc.)

No absolutely not! Maryland's helmets in week one were painful to the eyes. These helmets aren't as bad...but seriously...that's an ugly helmet! The white helmet actually looks good!

Notre Dame doesn't mean the same to someone under the age of 25 (maybe even 30) as it would to someone older. Their last title was in 1988.

They haven't really been all that 'relevant' in the national title picture since Lou Holtz was still coaching there.

I'm not arguing that they are undeserved of their status in college football, but I can understand the argument could be made if it's about recent performance.

On a side note, the new gold paint that they're using for the helmets is actually pretty sweet in real life. I was at the ND/Navy game a couple weeks ago and they look very sharp. The new gold color was chosen to match the golden dome on campus and is crazy bright/reflective. (Also happened to sit next to Earle Bruce's brother at that game, but that's another story!)

Adding the shamrock??? It's pretty horrid. Makes me want a bowl of me Lucky Charms.

So people are expressing their (correct) opinion that these are absolutely horrid, and this is somehow proof of jealousy? What exactly would they be saying if they just didn't like them?

What was the deal with the gold before? Growing up the helmets were always gold. Then a few years back they all of a sudden became beige or taupe (perhaps). It was like there was a mix up at the helmet factory.
