Interesting article...always seemed like a nice guy that just wasn't quite what Miami needed even though he attended that school. Mentions he has spent a week with the Iowa State program (among other programs) during his year off...that would be a fun way to spend a year after being fired!
I am a huge Miami fan stemming from the days they were out of control, I loved the flambouency and the swagger they played with. With that being said they needed Randy Shannon to come in and clean things up the way he did and it's a shame they got rid of him. I am looking forward to seeing him back coaching because I think he is a very good defensive coach.
I think Shannon would be a great hire for Penn State. He got rid of that "thug" image Miami had off the field, but kept that intensity on the field. He was the D-Coordinator for a consistent top-25 defense at Miami and he knows the LB position - making him an ideal fit for "Linebacker U." He also comes out of the Nevin Shapiro situation in a positive light, which can only improve his image to help Penn State get back on track.

Yeah but the players weren't the problem. It's not like he has to restore order with them. If he is hired there, again, he will be put in a tough situation that will need a minimum of 5 years to overcome in terms of recruiting. Before RichRod was fired he was the guy I want him to bring in as DC. I think he is a phenomenal coach but I don't know if he's head coach material. Maybe he is too much of a "good guy" in those terms.
Didn't the 30 for 30 film "The U" basically state Randy Shannon was in charge of handing out payments to players? If so I doubt anyone should be looking to hire him.
