Hawk BBall Team
i'm sure there is a good reason for this....hope someone can help me understand. i just saw the entire basketball team for Iowa at the most expensive restaurant in CF (ok, i know that's not much to some of you...it's probably $20-$30 per person.).
Why come in the night before and pay hotel and meal? They could easily drive tomorrow and get in a shoot around, play and go home. just seems like a waste of money to me?

I'd want to get out of Iowa City as much as possible.
The Republicans and Democrats fighting over who should pay for the deficit, is like two drunks on the Titanic arguing over who should pay the bar tab. -
Re: Hawk BBall Team
They just want a taste of the good life before Iowa drops the basketball program.

Maybe they ordered salads.

Re: Hawk BBall Team
They come the night before because that is the routine and you don't change routine. And for how much money these guys make universities without getting paid(Sure free education, but still), a 30 dollar meal seems fair.

Re: Hawk BBall Team
ISU and every other program does the same thing sometimes. Maybe not to CF, but there are plenty of other times when they could theoretically bus or fly in the same day and don't. (Johnny got flack for the team FLYING to CF the day of the game rather than taking a bus.)
Fact is, the program is self-sufficient, receives no taxpayer dollars and they can use their money however they want within the rules. If that includes occasionally rewarding the players with a nice meal on a roadtrip, I don't see why anyone would have a problem with that.

Gotta continually eat large amounts of steak to combat the rhabdo.

I thought I heard the B12 has a conference rule that teams must arrive the day before - something about avoiding travel delays on day of game.

His program feeds the Athletic Dept with revenue and it is being wasted on fancy meals for a team that has been running in the red for years I am sure. How can your basketball program turn a profit when they average a few hundred fans per game (and that number might be generous considering all of the FREE tickets they are constantly giving away)? -
Re: Hawk BBall Team
their is a rule as to how much they can pay per player per meal and the restaurants will usually offer a limited menu for groups that hit their price point.

Re: Hawk BBall Team
As a taxpayer, I demand that Iowa basketball eat McDonald's for every meal!!! With these savings, ISU should be able to bowl in the south endzone in no time...

Re: Hawk BBall Team
It's a slippery slope. You blow the whistle on this and the next thing you know we're no longer hosting recruits at Aunt Maude's - but resigned to hosting them at Panda Express.

a school taking athletes out to dinner is no big deal, but I question the "no taxpayer dollars" part. I believe donations to college athletics are deductible.
