    Just remembered, another So Miss tie to Iowa

    This one from the lesser school over here to the east. Saw the SMU logo, remembered this:

    Patent office tells Southern Miss its logo too similar to Iowa’s | Hawk Central

    Apparently they won the battle, looks like they're still using the logo.

    Not a patent and trademark lawyer but I work with one regularly. I don't think they really ever had a chance with this.

    The school's nickname is Golden Eagles, it's a golden eagle. I've seen much more obvious copying of trademarks hold up to legal tests. There probably is some influence and if I made these laws as a designer myself I'd probably rule for Iowa, but seeing what actually happens they had no chance.
