This picture of Harrison Barnes is worth the proverbial thousand words.

Really to bad. People questioning his heart have to be idiots. Kid has game but all that hype did not help him. Nothing is wrong with being the next Luol Deng, people need to realize that he is not Michael Jordan.

I don't feel bad for him, a lot of players (stars) go through that stage when they get knocked out. I sure don't feel the need to revel in his pain either. Outside of not choosing ISU, he seems a model citizen.

I really hope he decides to stay one more year. I want to see him succeed at this level whether he's at ISU or not.

Going to a school with equal (or even better) talent than him "IMO" can actually waterdown a guys stock, had he stayed here, or gone to Okla. or wherever, he would have been more of a focal point, and in the media eye more often. Just ask Royce White.
You're right, he could have gone anywhere. He wanted to win a national championship, so he went to one of the best programs in the country. That school also had a good business school, which was what he wanted to study. Jeez, what a lousy kid!

Don’t know why the resentment is still there. I’m sure everyone would have picked UNC over ISU at the time. The bigger question is that he was a Duke lean all the way. Did he pick UNC because he wouldn’t have started in front of Kyle Singler. Put H. Barnes on that team with Irving plus what they had and thats a National Championship team. UNC at the time didn’t have any 3’s at all.

I remember when he was all high on NC being a great business school and all. I mean who did he think he was fooling? I never had the chance to stick a microphone in his face and ask him, but wasn't it clear he was going NBA after a season or two? ...couldn't he have done that here??? ...if you say he wanted to be part of a National Championship team, I'd say, "well, how's that workin' out for ya?" ((If there were other threads on this forgive me))

Which also makes me wonder... couldn't Chizik have bought his QB when he was up here, and any other players he wanted??? (I'm not looking for any arguements, I'm just curious as to the mentality of such individuals)
I guess you'd have to ask HB, but I'm just speculating it could have been the better basketball program, the better coaching (as compared to ISU at the time of his decision), the better business program, the better weather. Perhaps any or all of these things. Why do you think ISU was such a great fit for HB?

Well, I never said (or speculated) that ISU would've been a better fit for him... I was merely stating that he could've gone anywhere in the country if his ultimate goal was the NBA. Perhaps he got caught up in the storied history of North Carolina... He was leaning hard to Duke in the thick of it... It just became very apparent (to me anyway) that his degree in business may not have been as big of a deal or motivational factor as he initially made it out to be. As I said in an earlier post, he could've gone to a school that is the scrape of the earth university, and the Pro's would've snagged him up anyway. He didn't need to go to a high profile school to get noticed, or "more" notariety. But again, I'm just speculating as he hasn't made his decision as of yet. But just the fact that leaving UNC this early is even in doubt, kind of blows my mind.

    1. Duke doesn't have an undergrad business school, which could easily have been a factor in his change of heart.

    2. The pros may have noticed him no matter where he went, but he definitely gets more notoriety by going to UNC/Duke/Kansas/etc. Those are the teams on ESPN all day, every day from November to April.

    3. The fact that his leaving early is in doubt is a sign to me that he really does take his education seriously. The only reason it's in doubt is that everyone assumes he's going to leave. But what if he has no intention of leaving yet, and isn't seriously considering the jump, if at all (which is my gut feeling)?

He could've just been talking about the business school to make his mom happy for all I know. He made the right decision, IMO, and could've had any number of reasons for it.

Also, what the hell does Chizik have to do with HB? HB is twice the man that Chizik is. And Chizik may not have even not even known about Newton getting offered money.

Chizik has plausible deniability, but it's highly unlikely he didn't know. Remember when he wanted a team chaplain or whatever when he was in Ames? That's common practice in the south, and there's an excellent reason why: Priests make great middle-men.

He's a very good player who had a very average weekend. I was always under the impression that he could take over a game. But he can't. I know he was missing his point guard, but a great player could adjust to that. He has obviously accomplished a lot and will make a ton of money in the NBA, but he'll never be a legend at NC which is what they thought he would be.
