Harrison Barnes article on Grantland
I wouldn't be surprised if some people on this board are a little Harrison Barnes-ed out after the threads today. If that's the case, sorry. But I thought this was an interesting article with a different take, so I'm passing it along. Brand Gone Bust: Harrison Barnes's two years with the North Carolina Tar Heels - Grantland
Also, if this was posted on either of the Barnes threads that had activity earlier today, I'm sorry. I gave a very quick look and didn't see it.

Bill Simmon's brand has gone bust. I used to like reading his articles. He's turned to an pretentious ******.

Of the 15 articles on the Grantland front page, only one is by him. There's a fair number of good articles coming out of that site lately. The one a couple of days ago on Fabrice Muamba was particularly good.

Agreed, it's a pretty solid site. Lots of good stuff there.
As for Bill Simmons' brand, it's probably bigger than it's ever been. He's one of ESPN's most valuable properties.

Add another for thinking Barnes will be a complete bust in the NBA. Not nearly as aggressive as he needs to be. Certainly is smooth with what he does, but needs more of an attackers mentality

HB doesnt deserve the bashing. 17 ppg on a team with 5 maybe 6 other pros. (henson, zeller, marshall, mcadoo, strickland, and maybe bullock and maybe even hairston). Crazy how 2 off games can change perceptions

Re: Harrison Barnes article on Grantland
This article makes Harrison Barnes come across as the Roger Dorn of NCAA D1 College Basketball, which I find hilarious

Seems like he takes a lot of shots in order to get his points. Shooting 43%. Doesn't seem to make opportunities for others, such as feeding into Zeller or Henson.

Re: Harrison Barnes article on Grantland
it's a good read... but imo he's not that bad of a basketball player.
in the KU game no one set picks for him and half the time he was doubled... was going to be tough to get open shots all game
hilarious tho they make him out to be a bust already

I think he has the potential, but it is hard to see it happening on that team. It is hard to imagine "the" Michael Jordan fitting on that team. Too much talent and too much ego on everyone's part.
He seemed to be at his best during the AAU games. In high school, it was just too easy and he didn't really try that hard most of the time. His stock really shot up with how well he did in AAU games against other prep stars, mostly because he was smart and they were just athletic.

No one on Carolina's current team is as good as any of those 3 guys. They maybe as good as Matt Dogherty.

Those guys' mentalities may have been different than those of players today, though. A lot more of "me-first" in today's game, IMO.

Re: Harrison Barnes article on Grantland
Hate seeing college kids worrying about their "brand"...what a joke, just play the game and things will take care of themselves.
