He rebounds 7 RPG and scores almost 9PPG. That's higher than national average.
KU won't be the same without having Withey in the middle.

I would've loved to have had Withey on the floor for us this year. Basketball is a much simpler game defensively when your guards have an eraser under the bucket when they get beat.

All you have to do is look at both championship teams and who they have in the middle.
One key to what Davis does exceptionally well, IMO, is that when he blocks a shot he doesn't just blast it into the stands (most times). Instead he trys to keep the ball in play so if his team gets it they can run. And with the talant UK has at guard I can certainly see why.
Whithey on the other hand is a very good shot blocker, but seems to send the ball into the stands more than not. I would be really surprised if he isn't NBA bound after this year though. I assume being defensive POY in the Big 12 and having a great tournament defensively, will get him drafted.

Re: KU's Whitey, probably the most inept big man ever
He's in there primarily for his defense against Davis, so any offense he was going to generate was a bonus. The problem was that NONE of Kansas' frontline was willing or able to do anything against Kentucky's. He was trying to do something and was mostly getting collapsed on by guys more athletic than him. Robinson and Releford were both essentially silenced by Kentucky and Kansas' guards couldn't keep up. Kentucky was just a better, more well-rounded team and played better overall. Kansas fought down the stretch to make it close but they had less talent and got outplayed.

He was a defensive force all year, most dangerous as a secondary defender. I was worried that he would get beat up last night by the Jones/Davis combo but he held his own as a primary defender and had a nice game on the defensive end.
On the other hand, the theme of Kentucky's defensive plan was "Don't bring that weak **** in here!", which in fact Withey did do for most of the game.

I was amazed at how physical they were letting Kentucky play in the post at the beginning of the game. Kansas finally figured it out and started matching that rough play at the other end; but it was too little, too late.

Withey was straight terrified of Davis offensively, but you cannot question his defensive ability.

I'd take him. Good defender.

Re: KU's Whitey, probably the most inept big man ever
One difference between Royce and Withey attacking the basket is that Kansas was not spotting up and almost every time Royce was down low he had four guys spotted up on the perimeter and no one can guard him one on one. Withey had two to three guys trying to strip him and body him up every time he was down low. Kansas had a problem in that no one wanted to shoot the three or even fake like they would. It allowed everyone to slough down low when the ball went into the bigs.

Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year I believe? Anyone see his catch phrase in the tourney? "Ya, *****"

Never seen a guy miss a guy miss a dunk then get his elbow stuck in the rim.

Lol CF has a thread on how bad Withey is and Hawkeye Nation has a thread on how good he his because of how "similar" he is to Woodbury.
