Larry Brown to SMU?

He is interviewing for the vacancy after Doherty's firing. With SMU moving to the Big East next year (which is frickin ridiculous), hiring Larry Brown could help them in recruiting the east coast. I think he could be successful, but it is SMU. I never underestimate Larry Brown, the guy can coach.

He is 71 however. A lot of times when these legendary coaches come back it sort of fizzles out.

If you're SMU you take 3 years with Larry Brown obviously, and hope that he leaves you in a situation where you can compete in the Big East.

Looks like he got the job at age 71.

I didn't realize Brown is replacing ex-North Carolina coach, Matt Dougherty, who was fired after 6-seasons. I watch a lot of college ball, but never heard a pip about Dougherty at SMU.

This appears to be official. Strange. 71. Out of college b ball since 88 and always seemed to ignore the "rules". Do you really want that guy at a place like SMU with it's own well published history of violations???

Does anyone know if he was actively looking for a HC job? Seems he could have gone to a better program if he was. Or is this a favor to someone?

I read lots of articles about this. All say pretty much the same thing. Seems like a strange experiment.
