Maryland Football's Black Field Rumors May Have Terrifying, Nightmarish Legs - From Our Editors - SBNation.com

The Maryland Terrapins are rumored to be working on a new, freakish football field for the upcoming season. These rumors have only been whispered under the cover of nightfall, or in shady back rooms of taverns until recently. It is said the new field would be as black as coal and so terrifying as to turn the hair of a young man stark white.

This along with those terrible jerseys.... what is happening at Maryland

Seems like the field would get unbelievably hot in the sun... The green fake grass colored field turf already gets really hot at times...

That would be hot as hell to play on for those end of August start of September games. That's really poorly thought out.

Doesn't take much on filed turf. That rubber holds heat like crazy. Cost Mangino his job at Kansas lol.

If they do go with the field color, I would change the jerseys to be a lot more black and try and play as many night games as possible.

I lived between DC and Baltimore for 3 years. The climate is more temperate then Iowa. Warmer winters but more humidity in spring, summer, and fall. I would hate to play on black field in Sept and maybe even Oct on a warm day.

It would be brutally hot. It can easily be in the 90s in September with very high humidity (think >75%).

However, I like it. And I liked the jerseys. Call me crazy.

I'd be willing to bet that if they actually did this, they would add a cooling system somehow. Maryland (UnderArmour) has money.

Especially if they wear white 100% at home and force their opponents to wear their dark jerseys there. Conceptually it's a great design. In practicality it's horrible, especially for football.
