Re: PSU donations second highest in school history
The only big issue I have with not punishing PSU further, is that it doesn't do anything to prevent these kinds of coverups in the future.
The offenses weren't football related, but the coverup was done to preserve the reputation of PSU football. It went way up the ladder. That should be unacceptable for any university.
I think there should be further sanctions against PSU football so that other schools will think twice about covering up anything even if it's not of this magnitude.
Instead, PSU just pushed out Paterno and fired everyone else directly involved and just goes on with business as usual. Heck, they are having better recruiting than the last few years with JoePa so they might even be better off in the future.
I know we would hate if anything like this happened at ISU, but there really should be consequences above and beyond just cleaning house and reloading.

I mean right now, if Nick Saban decides to kill 5 hookers Craig James style, Bama would be better off covering it up until he retires and then just hire the newest awesome coach on the block with no hicuup. Roll Tide Roll!

I don't know what you consider not punishing because there has already been one criminal trial, there will be a few others, and there will be plenty of civil lawsuits with the University paying out big money.

Re: PSU donations second highest in school history
If PSU doesn't get punished in some way in terms of football, then no team should get punished after the fact.
What JoePa didn't do that enabled this monster to rape kids over and over is pathetic. The program has to take a hit for it.

I think this is just Joe Fan saying "we don't care what you've done...we love PSU football"

Re: PSU donations second highest in school history
I understand the fans didn't do anything wrong up to the point it was made public.
However the BWI posts and indignation at JOPA's firing is sickening.
You want me to tune down the hate I have for PSU? Tear that f'n statue down and melt it. Then set Jerry's house on fire PSU fans. Then we'll talk.
But that's not going to happen because PSU and its fans and alumni are a bunch of moronic defenders of child molesters. And you can bet this ain't over by a long shot.
There will be a lot more coming public before this is over...and this money will be ****** away on lawyers and plaintiffs. NCAA needs to put the hammer down...or shut the doors.

The fact that PSU fans still think Paterno is some kind of Saint tells me everything I need to know about them. They are the biggest dolts in college football.

This is the fanbase continuing to support and approve of the culture that led to decades of young boys being raped under JoePa's watch. I'm just sad he didn't live to see his legacy crumble. Paterno has been exposed as a horrible, horrible, horrible person who happened to be good at coaching football. Penn State valued football over stopping child rape, and hasn't shown in any way that they wouldn't do the same in the future.

Unfortunately, I doubt that those who have the means to rip this cover-up wide open will do so.

Re: PSU donations second highest in school history
The whole Penn State thing blows my mind every time I think about it. Not just because of the magnitude of what happened, but because as an institution, there was no reason to cover it up! Even beyond the moral obligation to do the right thing, nobody would have blamed PSU for what Sandusky did if they would have just cut ties the first time accusations came out and made anything they found out about public. If anything, it would have enhanced their public image to deal with it swiftly. It just blows my mind that so many supposedly smart people decided trying to cover it up was the best way to handle that situation.
