If anything, it would have enhanced their public image to deal with it swiftly. It just blows my mind that so many supposedly smart people decided trying to cover it up was the best way to handle that situation. Because, according to their internal e-mails, they felt that doing nothing was more "humane" to Sandusky. The fact that this allowed him to continue, with their implicit consent, raping young children on a regular basis using their name and facilities to get access to his victims was all just being "humane" to him.

Degrees don't really mean that someone is smarter. They just stayed longer (or avoided the rest of the world).

I'll admit that the last clause of that sentence might not have helped my case.

I still recall Keith Jackson on ABC TV gushing over Paterno and Sandusky, praising the assistant coach during the same times Sandusky was molesting children in showers and his basement. What a disgusting university.

Re: PSU donations second highest in school history
Let me be real clear on this, I think what happened at Penn St is outright sick, from Sandusky right up the chain.
I just think it's really hard to judge the fans for wanting to continue and even upping their donations in the wake of what has happened when we cannot relate to their situation. It's real easy to condemn the actions of fans that want to support a program with a lot of tradition when the school we all cheer for doesn't even come close to having the tradition that Penn St has. What happens if Hoiberg coaches ISU to several national championships over the next 30 years, and then, 30 years from now, it comes out that an equally appalling scandal hits ISU? It's real easy to say now that we wouldn't do what Penn St fans are doing, but I would wager a lot of ISU fans standing tall on the soap box right now would probably be doing exactly what Penn St fans are doing right now.
Like I said from the beginning, I find what happened at Penn St appalling. But I would refrain from judging Penn St fans too harshly when none of us really have any clue what we would be doing if we were in their position.

Ok as an alum of ISU the name Graham Spanier and "Distinguished Alumni" should never be said again.

I know hindsight - 20/20 blah blah but 2004:
ISU President Gregory Geoffroy says, “It is not an exaggeration to state that Graham Spanier may be the most widely respected university president in America today.”

Re: PSU donations second highest in school history
First - it appears aside from football booster donations going up some the majority of the money has zero to do with football. These are largely donations to the university as a whole. Second - PSU didn't need to comment on the increase. It still smells of "see, despite what all of you think we're still just fine here in Happy Valley." PSU and media reports and the like need to go away unless it's to announce the building with the shower in it is being torn down.
