Big 10/Pac 12 scheduling agreement dead
Announced last fall that each B10 school was to play a P12 school. Too hard to pull off so it has died. Pac-12, Big Ten conferences call off football partnership - ESPN
Author of the story says the B10 could either
1. Go back to the 9 game conf schedule had previously announced but then called off
2. Stay at 8 game conf schedule
3. Find a scheduling agreement with another conference...Personally, I thought the Big 10 already had a scheduling agreement with the MAC :) I think every Big 10 school plays at least 1 MAC team per year as it stands, right?

Big Ten/Big 12 challenge! Everyone but Nebraska and Penn state gets a game!

Re: Big 10/Pac 12 scheduling agreement dead
I can understand why some of those Pac 12 schools didn't want to do it but I'm disappointed. The SEC wouldn't agree to something like this until Hell froze over. The Big 12 would have the same issues that the Pac 12 had with 9 game conference schedules and preserving other OOC rivalries. That pretty much leaves just the ACC.

You don't think Texas will buy my rationale of "ISU has to put up with an annual game against a Big Ten opponent, so everyone else should have to as well?"
Really, what big OOC rivalries in the Big 12 would we be busting up? Would anybody in Texas be upset if they played Ohio St. or Michigan in place of some old SWC school that didn't make the cut for the Big 12? KU-Mizzou isn't happening anytime soon. OU usually plays a big non-con game, but it's not like they play any specific opponents consistently.

Well, I'm pretty sure I know who ISU's opponent would be every year... This would allow us to play another BCS opponent in the non conf. though if we went to 8 game conf. schedule.

Maybe if the Big 12 ever did expand back to 12, they could drop the 9th conference game and add a Big 12/Big 10 game. Scheduling really works pretty well with 8 games in a 12 team conference, and the tv execs should be happy as they wouldn't be losing a marquee game. It would be an interesting discussion as far as ISU/Iowa goes. Do they play each other and another game, or just call the ISU/Iowa game the one for the series.
Probably will never happen but its fun to talk/think about.

Probably will never happen but its fun to talk/think about. I'm sure it would be part of the series. I'm also sure we'd endure endless ******** from Iowa fans (and probably some from ISU fans as well) about never being able to play a "real" Big 12 team because of it.

We have no precedence for this in football, but challenges like this in basketball are almost entirely based on matching up teams who are expected to finish in similar spots in the conference while trying to not have the same teams face each other every year(ie: Big 10 #1 vs Big 12 #1 and so on).
That's why I think the ISU vs Iowa series would be seperate from this because it would be fairly rare for ISU and Iowa to meet, just going off odds.

Re: Big 10/Pac 12 scheduling agreement dead
All that matters to me is that Iowa stops playing its patsey schedule its been playing for years now. Not only is the Big 10 a joke and the most overrated conference out there, but they play in the easiest division and only play an 8 game schedule. Their 7 wins last year were the most embarasssing 7 wins of nearly every BCS conference team out there. When you compare who we played vs who they played, our 6 wins were way more impressive. The terrible thing is that total wins is all that matters to anyone, especially Hawkeye fans when it comes to bragging rights. I'm with our coach when he says that he's okay with the tough 9 game conference schedule if everyone else has to do the same thing. Otherwise, I want to get back to 8 personally so that we are on more of an equal footing.
