Paterno Statue to be Removed
NFL Network reporter Kim Jones reported Friday that Penn State plans to take down the Joe Paterno statue outside of Beaver Stadium.
The public outcry for the removal of Paterno's statue was sparked by the release of the independent investigation by former FBI director Louis Freeh, whose findings were made public July 12. In the report, Freeh's investigative team revealed Paterno allegedly had detailed knowledge of activity involving Jerry Sandusky before and after Sandusky retired in 1999.
Nike announced it would change the name of its childcare center the day the Freeh report was issued. Penn State students changed the name of the student camp the week of home football games to "Nittanyville" last week.
Paterno's alma mater, Brown University, removed Paterno's name from its annual award given to the school's top freshman athlete and coaching position and is weighing whether to take the Paterno out of its athletic hall of fame. Paterno graduated from Brown in 1950.

Re: Paterno Statue to be Removed
They had no choice. If they didn't, some other group/person would (and rightly so, IMO).

Re: Paterno Statue to be Removed
Yeah, this only took some time because they didn't want it to look like a knee jerk. I don't think there was ever an actual debate.
Also, I liked what someone had to say regarding removing Paterno's records. Remove everything in his name. His wins and all of that, put don't take PSU out of it. Over all the years there were a lot of people involved who had nothing to do with the crime.
I'm on Twitter too: Tre4ISU
Or so I have read. -

Re: Paterno Statue to be Removed
This pretty much had to happen, no way they let a statue of someone who turned a blind eye at the sexual abuse of children stand.

Re: Paterno Statue to be Removed
I say do it Iraqi-style: Get a bunch of people, throw a rope around it, pull it down, then beat the bejeebers out of it with their shoes.
I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong. -

Re: Paterno Statue to be Removed
Melt it down and make a marker to the victims.
All truisms are false. All of them. -
Re: Paterno Statue to be Removed
Don't take it down, just turn it around. That way Paterno is always looking the other way.

I assume they will begin the process of renaming their library shortly.

Re: Paterno Statue to be Removed
Some big donor will have it in his man cave.

Re: Paterno Statue to be Removed
IMO this is not needed, but the media wouldn't let it drop until this happened so I don't blame them.

Re: Paterno Statue to be Removed
Don't tell this to these guys. They will probably chain themselves to the statue.

“I told you, I don’t care if you’re black or white. I don’t care if you’re rich or poor. I don’t care where you come from, whether it’s Texas, Florida, California, or right here in the state of Iowa, I don’t care about any of that… But what I did care about is moving forward from that day on, that we were one team." -Paul Rhoads
