They are a great example of why bowl eligibility should not just be based on pure w-l but on some sort of SOS factored formula. A team we beat soundly can rack up a bunch of wins with an easy schedule, while we have to be a top 25 program just to get to 6-7 wins.
So, in essence, subject the entire bowl system to the BCS treatment? And even if it's not quite as bad as the BCS treatment, with a SOS component you're leaving your fate in the hands of the teams you play. I think I prefer it like it is.
We know what we need to do to get to a bowl, so it's up to the coaches and the team to go out and do it. Yes, it's much more difficult for us, but I'd rather play in the Big 12 knowing that it's difficult to make a bowl every year than play in CUSA even if we were guaranteed a bowl berth every year.

"There are five real good recruits in the state. We got three of them. One couldn’t get into school, and the other went to (the University of) Iowa...which is about the same thing." - Coach Johnny Orr
