Normally I would say that a coordinator should be given more than a year to establish his system, but what I've seen in the games I've watched this year would not make me optimistic if I were a Hawkeye fan.

Re: Ferentz's Buyout
I just hope they don't miss out on the opportunity to get a guy who actually knows how to win a national championship. He knows how to line up helmets and I'm sure after this season he will work for a fraction of the cost. Look up "firmly entrenched" and you will see the CHIN!

so long as he doesn't miss a bowl game 3 years in a row, i think its safe to say he'll be there until his contract runs out or he goes by choice. although we have fared well against him, i would rather see him gone. despite the fact he is having a down year, he has proven to be a very good coach. not many out there could keep a team in iowa competitive year in and year out like he has. if iowa so much as shows a pulse, they will likely continue to out-recruit us in and out of state.

He'll probably survive this year but another year like this and he will be firmly on the hot seat.

No chance he gets fired until we start seeing empty seats at Kinnick.

The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come. -

I'd say Chizik is in a much worse situation than Ferentz. Chizik I believe has three straight top 15 recruiting classes. Even in the SEC that should mean that you're competitive every year with the top of the league. Ferentz on the other hand is at a school that doesn't get that quality of recruits. Iowa should expect a bowl game most years under Ferentz and expect down seasons now and then. The way I see it, this is simply one of Ferentz's down seasons. For Chizik it's a down season, but besides the National Title year I'd say he really hasn't met expectations.

I like Ferentz. I don't think he should be fired. The bolded isn't accurate though. I think that's the root of the some of the fans frustration. They've contended for a conference championship just once since 2004. The rest of the seasons are made up of 6, 7, or 8 win teams.
You act like Iowa is Indiana, where they don't bring in enough money to fire a coach with a big contract.
Also, you either have no idea what Iowa fans expect from their program or are a member of the Ferentz family. It won't take missing a bowl game for three straight years. He misses a bowl game next year, his *** is out.
