If the NCAA decided to try to regulate conference membership it would only hasten the mass exodus from the NCAA.

The whole problem with the B1G hoping ND will come crawling back, is the fact that ND is undefeated right now... Another humble season and they likely would have, but after this year, they will be as arrogant as ever. I'm not an ND fan, but can't argue with the team they put together this year... At the start of the year I'm pretty sure it was the toughest rated schedule, though the B1G sucking brought it down a little. I'll give it to them this year, they are actually walking the walk... I'm still mad at OU for making me have to concede this...

For the Pac, any addition basically dilutes that. Especially if the Pac 12 Network keeps ending up on TV in the midwest. I am still not sure West Coast people watch that much college football....

If it happened, along would come the Feds (and probably the states too) with the corporate tax hammer, likely with the NFL, NBA, and MLB urging them on. The NCAA is on tenuous grounds regarding its non-profit status as it is.
IMO, the only reason the NCAA still holds its non-profit status is because nobody with big enough legal pockets has filed a challenged with the IRS. Anybody can challenge a non-profit status; it doesn't have to come from the US Congress (although it can).

I don't think this would be as big of an issue as some make it out to be. Only the Texas', OSU's, ND's of the world would be affected at all.

They are going to eliminate the need for the NCAA to be the governing body of the two main sports. It will be essentially a monopoly for the two networks, and their subsidiaries. That will allow them to set advertising rates, and set a market for what they are going to pay the schools selected.
And I know it has not worked so far, but it would not surprise me to see more LHN type arrangements signed for the truly national programs like o$u, mich, usc, etc. Once they control the content of these schools, they will be able to better market the idea of single school networks to fans and alums nationwide.
As you have seen in Iowa, you can block access to networks, and people will still want them, and what is another 1.50 a month on a 60 dollar cable bill.

There are so many channels I get (and pay for) that I NEVER watch and would like to dump, but others I don't get and would be willing to pay for. Not that it is coming soon, but maybe it would put an end to this pushing channels down our throat and therefore this whole conference realignment which is really a tv set grab.
And yes, I know a la carte cable is coming no time soon.

I could sell my kids for money but I think I'd prefer to keep them the old fashioned way...money out.
