Actually you could also do it in the ACC, SEC, Conference USA, Mid-American, Mountain West, and Sun Belt.

Exactly! Amazing how many people get up on a soap box on these boards and tout stuff like this. Especially since half the board is clamoring to go back to the 8 game conference schedule so we can put another easy win on the schedule.

Don't get me wrong, more ISU football is always better than less ISU football, but 3-6 in conference is pretty crummy and in some ways, emberrassing that it gets us to a bowl game. The only reason I feel OK about it is that we actually have a BCS opponent non-con, and a rivalry game at that.

Actually you can do that in every conference but the Big XII and the Pac-12.

yeah, I don't think anyone is debating that ISU is better than Minnesota. More like pointing out how absurd the OP's position was.

Don't get me wrong, I believe that the Big 12 is much better competition than the big 10, but the OP wasn't making a comment about the competition, they were making a comment about how a 2-6 conference record could get to a bowl. Iowa Stat has come a long way, but I will believe that we are getting somewhere when we can start going .500 in the conference.

I took it to mean that Minnesota couldn't go 6-6 in a good conference which isn't absurd at all, I guess "only" means CUSA, MAC, etc. They wouldn't sniff six wins in the Pac 12, Big 12 or SEC. There's a real drop off. The mid and low level teams in the Big Ten aren't significantly different than MAC and CUSA teams.
